Wonderful Detail,

This review is from: Audubon's Birds of America Coloring Book (Paperback)
This is a great way to entroduce anyone to the joy of bird watching. Reading descriptions below each picture, and seeing fully illustrated versions that are included are also helpful. Taking the time to learn the shape and coloring of each bird, helps to really learn to identify a specific bird when it is seen later. This is a fun hobby for adults also. A great way to be artistic, if you have only a little talent in drawing.

I purchased several of these coloring books to use during a first grade lesson on birds and Audubon, the artist. After learning all about Audubon, each student selected one page from the book, and referred to the colored images on the book's cover to color the page as realistically as possible. It was exciting for them to have real Audubon pictures of their own. The paper quality is excellent (not flimsy like many cheap coloring books). Many of the students asked to take an extra page home. The little descriptions on the bottom of each page were helpful, as they gave the name of the bird and a brief description of the image. I purchased a few extra to give to the teacher for future lessons.

Paul E. Kennedy's renderings of 36 of John James Audubon's birds into "Audubon's Birds of America Coloring Book" make art accessible to anyone with a few bucks.
The colorer has two approaches to a finished product: (1) go wild, use the imagination, use colors of your choice, or (2) try to recreate Audubon's colors. The pages are nicely done, including enough detail for advanced colorers, and certainly large enough (11 x 8) to have fun displaying the completed artwork. The quality of the paper certainly surpasses that of most common coloring books. Among the included birds are these: American Flamingo, Purple Finch, Screech Owl, Brown pelican (my state bird), Robin, White-throated Sparrow, Brown Thrasher, and, of course, the Wild Turkey. In case the colorer does not have an actual Audubon book for a guide, Kennedy includes three pages of small illustrations from Audubon's book. One could spend a pleasant hour doing something else, but an hour with Audubon, an array of coloring tools before you, Haydn's "Piano Concerto No 2" with Maurizio Pollini on the CD player, and a cup of coffee in reach--now there's an hour of bliss!

I just purchased these Dover COloring Books for my mother and she loves them. The detail is out of this world and the variety of colors you can use are only limited by your inagination. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I loved this book. It has great detail and has pictures of the real birds to help you when you color. For Kids or Adults. Has helped me know my birds when I see them and has fullfilled my need to be artistic when I am not.

I purchased this book for my 6th grader who homeschools. This is fun addition I added to his studies on bird anatomy and a bit of history of Audubon. It's nice for assignments and artwork, that is also enjoyable.
