Editorial Reviews

Counting Crows debut album August and Everything After was an instant success on its release in late 1993 and went on to sell over 7 million
copies in America. In the UK it charted at No.16 and has sold over 400,000 copies. On September 18, 2007, the band performed the complete
album live for the first time at Town Hall in New York City. The gig was filmed in high definition and is now presented here as the first ever
Counting Crows live concert Blu-ray release. The band has maintained a hugely successful career with global album sales now in excess of 20
million but they have always saved their finest moments for the live arena. Now for the first time a Counting Crows live concert film is available
to own.

After 20 years of being around, 'August and Everything After: Live at Town Hall' represents the first live audio/video release of the band. Recorded in 2007, the original idea for this album was to have a concert at Town Hall with friends of the band who had been involved in their career somehow. As an inside joke and as Adam explains in the 40 minute documentary included as the only extra of the BD, they toyed with the idea of playing their 1993 debut album in its entirety, they ended up liking this idea better and cancelled the planned collaborations, Jakob Dylan being one of them. This is worth mentioning in case someone was expecting to listen to the band's greatest hits live, this is a live presentation of their complete first album!

The album opens with an outstanding rendition of 'Round Here', in my opinion, the best version of the song I have heard from the band; the opening song is a perfect example of what to expect from the concert, the band sounding better than ever, Adam's heart-felt singing, a lot of improvisation with Adam adding lyrics on the go as well as using lyrics from other songs, specifically 'Raining in Baltimore' and 'Private Archipelago'. It is quite impressive and worth mentioning the synergy of the band, if you did not know they were improvising you couldn't really tell as it looks and sounds as if rehearsed.

One after another, the band delivers incredible an updated versions of all the songs from their debut album, going sometimes as far as including bits of Springsteen's 'Thunder Road' in between the lyrics for 'Rain King'

The HD video presentation is quite impressive(1080i, 1.78:1), while I did notice a few cases in which the image didn't look as good as a BD can look, those were a few and not worth worrying about.

Counting Crows are one of my favorite live bands and I've been puzzled why they hadn't put any of their shows on DVD. Well, my wait is over. This intimate concert has Adam Duritz and his band tearing through their debut album track by track. But, like Dylan, Adam reinterprets his songs for the live audience. His music takes hold and he consistently transcends the originals, such as when the lyrics of Springsteen's "Thunder Road" seamlessly blend into "Rain King".

The DTS -HD Master Audio and video production of this Blu-Ray is fantastic and I look forward to playing this time and time again. Watching this will definitely make you want to see them the next time they come around.

First, this is a great performance, and I,ll second the earlier reviews that if you,re a CC fan this is a must have. I give it a 4.5 out of 5.

My only two criticism are typical for almost all concert films....

1 I want to break the hand of the video editor....I guess it is a result of the MTV crap, but dmanit, there is NO reason to quick edit to a different shot on every damn beat. Rain King is almost unwatchable! Fraking shame. I think it should be mandatory that every film editor watch and LEARN from The Last Waltz.

2 most surround sound systems have marginal center and rear speakers . I'd like to have a HD stereo track included.. No big deal though, as it is easy to downshift to stereo when playing the dts multichannel audio. Better 2 channels though great speakers than multichannels with marginal speakers.

Love them, i bought this after seeing them live here in Orlando, The best part about the counting crows live is the fact that they take liberties with there classic songs without destroying them and it gives you the feeling of listening to that song you hear 100 times and it sounds like the first time. the passion in Adams voice is incredible.

I wasn't able to attend the show live but this DVD is the next best thing. Watching a legendary band like this perform their debut CD in it's entirety is really amazing.
