4.0 out of 5 stars Almost as good as the first time. August 29, 2011
By H3@+h
Format:Audio CD
I remember I once disliked this band, but that was before I actually owned "August and Everything After". Now I reach for that disc as often as my Neil Young and Jayhawks cd's. Well, maybe not Neil. If Counting Crows were gonna do one of their albums live, this was obviously the one to do. It's like half hits. Their "best of" collection was half their debut. All the songs are excellent, which made for one of the best albums of the 90's.

I think the live versions here are great. If nothing else it's nice to hear them freshened up. They stretch them out and let them breathe without changing the basic song beyond recognition. Not better, but different. Good different.

You could tell "Counting Crows" were shooting for "REM/U2" status with the debut, and while they may not have become a 5 star band, they did make a 5 star album. They almost did it again here.

3.0 out of 5 stars ahh, the melodrama September 1, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
yes, the band is tight, the songs adventurous, the recording of the show conveys an exciting performance, but...the vocals, especially during the first half of the show: adam, you do have a penchant for emoting overly much, sometimes to the point of distraction. there are times when easing in is better than tearing the door down. and your songs work to greater effect when you are you, not van or bruce or bob.

3.0 out of 5 stars An Average Live Show September 17, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
Counting Crows have been one my favorite bands for nearly twenty years now. Their debut album (August) is still an amazing album from start to finish. Though I love hearing and seeing them live, I have to say that this is just an average show. For those unfamiliar with their other live stuff or newer material, this is an OK place to start, but while there are a few standout tracks, there are several that add little to the originals. I also didn't think Adam's voice was as strong on this as it could be. For a terrific live album, I would highly recommend Across A Wire, which is easily a five star record. I was able to buy this on Amazon as a five dollar MP3 deal. It was easily worth that much. Even bad recordings of this band are better than a lot of stuff that's out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I'm a huge Counting Crows fan, but this is the first live album I've purchased. It's nice to hear Adam Duritz is just as good live as he is in the studio.
