This ain't yo daddy's good old Blinker The Star,
By A Customer
This review is from: August Everywhere (Audio CD)
Jordan Zadoronzy, the one man instrument who IS (or was) Blinker The Star has taken quite a departure from their last two albums. He's basically thrown away the distortion pedal and welcomed the synthesizer with open arms. Even without a hard-rocking song on the album, August Everywhere has that Blinker The Star charm...and the extra touch of Ken Andrews (who not only produces, but plays some keys and sings some background vocals). It is the wisdom of Andrews that turns August Everywhere from "Whoah...this bites...where's the rock?" to "Whoah...did you hear that?...That was amazing!" Though it may disappoint some older Blinker fans, August Everywhere's pop sensibility and songwriting genius on songs like "The Star Behind The Star," "On This Earth," and the album's first single, "Below The Sliding Doors" may just gain Blinker The Star the respect they deserve. Listen with an open mind.

So here's where the Beach Boys went...,
By templecola (Long Beach, CA United States) - See all my reviews

When I first heard a song from this album (Sliding Doors) I was driving on I-5, on my way to Pasadena. I pulled off and bought the CD. I give it half a star over the 4 rating, and it would it be worth 5 if the boys had axed "Right Kind of Girl". There is something painful about the 'siamese cat' line. Probably I just don't get it. "Your Big Night" is Steely Dan adeptly finessed into the 90s. "Star Behind" may have been inspired by The Moody Blues or the Hale-Bopp cult troop, I dunno, but I like the pulsating yet dreamy arrangement. My fave track is "All Dreamed Out". It is a Satin Doombox.

Hooked by Below,
By Carolyn J. Seeley (Mexico City, Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: August Everywhere (Audio CD)
While you wait for Jason Falkner to release his next CD, buy this album. The second track, Below the Sliding Doors, is the hook but give the album a couple of listens and you may find it difficult to hit the "change" button.Lyrically and stylistically not as fun as Falkner and with a couple of weak songs, yet the album is reminisent of many but seems derivative of none. Get over your excitement each time you hear Below the Sliding Doors. Let the rest of the album sink in and work some summer magic.
