4.0 out of 5 stars This ain't yo daddy's good old Blinker The Star

3.0 out of 5 stars All the key ingredients of charming pop
Before opening the shrinkwrap on August Everywhere, I was put-off by the cover work. It shouted "Amateur Hour." On the front is a bird ice sculpture sitting on the desert floor. It's August, but the bird isn't melting - wow! And on the back cover is a guy carrying a star (Is Blinker carrying the weight of the universe on his shoulders?). Even the song titles made me...

Jordan Zadoronzy, the one man instrument who IS (or was) Blinker The Star has taken quite a departure from their last two albums. He's basically thrown away the distortion pedal and welcomed the synthesizer with open arms.

Even without a hard-rocking song on the album, August Everywhere has that Blinker The Star charm...and the extra touch of Ken Andrews (who not only produces, but plays some keys and sings some background vocals). It is the wisdom of Andrews that turns August Everywhere from "Whoah...this bites...where's the rock?" to "Whoah...did you hear that?...That was amazing!"

Though it may disappoint some older Blinker fans, August Everywhere's pop sensibility and songwriting genius on songs like "The Star Behind The Star," "On This Earth," and the album's first single, "Below The Sliding Doors" may just gain Blinker The Star the respect they deserve.

Listen with an open mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars So here's where the Beach Boys went..., March 14, 2003

When I first heard a song from this album (Sliding Doors) I was driving on I-5, on my way to Pasadena. I pulled off and bought the CD. I give it half a star over the 4 rating, and it would it be worth 5 if the boys had axed "Right Kind of Girl". There is something painful about the 'siamese cat' line. Probably I just don't get it. "Your Big Night" is Steely Dan adeptly finessed into the 90s. "Star Behind" may have been inspired by The Moody Blues or the Hale-Bopp cult troop, I dunno, but I like the pulsating yet dreamy arrangement. My fave track is "All Dreamed Out". It is a Satin Doombox.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hooked by Below, May 17, 2000

While you wait for Jason Falkner to release his next CD, buy this album. The second track, Below the Sliding Doors, is the hook but give the album a couple of listens and you may find it difficult to hit the "change" button.

Lyrically and stylistically not as fun as Falkner and with a couple of weak songs, yet the album is reminisent of many but seems derivative of none.

Get over your excitement each time you hear Below the Sliding Doors. Let the rest of the album sink in and work some summer magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Third time's the charm, January 31, 2000
This review is from: August Everywhere (Audio CD)
After following Blinker the Star for a few years now, I truly believe that if their 3rd album does not get them the attention they deserve, we must all concede that there is no justice in the music industry. The brainchild of one Jordon Zadoronzy, "August Everywhere" manages to mingle an 80's pop charm with a decidedly space-rock flavor, courtesy of ex-Failure, current-On frontman/producer-extraordinaire Ken Andrews (who also sings backup!). Also joining the fray is one-time Failure drummer Kelli Scott, who is surely John Bonham-reincarnate. The album runs a gauntlet of musical styles, from Billy Joel-ish piano to lush orchestral strings, which only serve to enhance a plethora of songs that ROCKROCKROCKROCK harder than their previous two efforts. If are into Hum or Failure (RIP), this one's a no-brainer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cosmic Starlight, June 17, 2006
This review is from: August Everywhere (Audio CD)
A series of supernatural synchronicities inexplicably led me to purchase this CD. Through some convoluted quantum psychology advancements I multilayered a fraction of hidden personalities into both the lyrics and frequencies being broadcast within the character themes and soundbites escalating out of the Source. The Star Behind The Star was the icing on the cake, reminding my new conversion oversoul of the pitfalls of entering the dimension of the "other" realities. If you would like to travel back in time and do a hyperdrive jump into a new future reality, this CD is for you. Not only is Swiss Time on the move, but all those "sunnyselves" can be garmented or discarded at the flip of a hat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album`Even better live!, August 23, 2001
This review is from: August Everywhere (Audio CD)
Like many of the other reviewers of this album I came to know blinker via Failure member Ken Andrews (now of the band ON). I bought this album since he produced it(he also produced Skycycle's EP). This is great melodic pop with traces of Failuresque arrangement. A while back I saw these guys in Seattle and boy as good as this album is they're much better live, and all are such nice guys, very willing to talk to fans. Kelly Scott drummer for Blinker live has GOT to be the worlds current best rock drummer tied only with Jeff Burrows from the Tea Party.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not easily impressed, but this album is VERY good., December 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: August Everywhere (Audio CD)
I knew nothing about Blinker The Star until reading a very positive review in the Detroit News/Free Press. I bought the disc after listening to Amazon's on-line samples and I wasn't disappointed. Out of the 12 tracks, there are only two that I don't really care for.....10 out of 12 listenable tracks is a rare find these days. Below The Sliding Doors, Pretty Pictures and The Star Behind The Star are all tracks you'll find yourself repeating. I hear touches of old Steely Dan, Jellyfish like tunes or orchestral backgrounds like some of Jason Falkner's solo cuts. If you're a hard rocker, this is not for you, but if you like a progressive pop sound with intelligent arrangements then I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Catchy-Hook Filled Pop Songs, August 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: August Everywhere (Audio CD)
I took a chance on this CD based on the other reviews. It's a great CD that re-kindles the lost "pop" sound of the late 1970's (in my opinion). I remember when pop had hooks that you'd remember only after one listening...to me this CD fills that void. I love it and there are only 2 songs I don't care for. Highly recommended for pop fans that like really catchy hooks you won't forget!
