First bread recipe for a Lemon Bread. For 1 cup of sugar, 5 T of melted butter, 2 eggs, and 1/2 c. milk, they add ONLY 1/2 cup of flour and expect this to make a bread in a 9 x 5 pan. Not likely.
Just a few breads later, the Zucchini Bread, 3 eggs and 214 cups of sugar!
Blueberry muffins call for 1 3/4 CUDS milk or water. The capitalization is theirs.
Butterscotch bars in a 9 x 13 pan, call for 14 cup quick cook oatmeal, 1/4 c. brown sugar and 112 ounce jar of caramel sauce...yummy.
Frozen fruit salad asks for 14 cup mayonnaise and 14 cup walnuts!
A huge number of these are not really cooking recipes, just tossing processed, ready made ingredients together and pretending they create something homemade and lovely. Cake mixes, instant pudding, whipped topping figure into many of these recipes.
Sticky buns do NOT show up, when you set refrigerated biscuits onto goo. Instead you have store bought biscuits in goo.
Pumpkin bread asks for 2 1/2 Acups unbleached flour. Is it asking you to measure with a bra?!
With the number of obvious errors in this book, one has to wonder, are ANY of the recipes right?.
Such a shame the proofing of this book appears to be nonexistent.
But, the format of the kindle version of this book is a mess. A recipe title may be on the bottom of one page, recipe on the next.
There's no cohesiveness. There are typos and the lay out is poor. For example, while under the candy section you will suddenly see a pie or two.
The recipes are truly from another era. Lots of prepackaged cake mix, pudding, and cook old vanilla wafers. It's not a complaint, most of the recipes remind me of my childhood. But, there are numerous recipes for the same thing or the same recipe with a different title. Not a lot of variation.
It's unfortunate because there is a lot of fun trivia, a whole episode list, and some background stories of the cat and crew.
I wish I would have stuck to my rule of only buying paperprint cookbooks.
All the recipes I have tried in the cookbook have been very accurate. No missing ingredients. No temperatures wrong. The index is thorough: recipes by name and by major ingredient. The recipes are easy to follow and come out tasty too!
The names are unique: Remember Gomer telling Barney "Citizen's arrest!! Citizen's arrest!!" Well, "Citizen's Arrest Chocolate Cheesecake" would be worth a night in the slammer with Otis! It's that good!
Every recipe I have tried has become a favorite: "My Name Ain't Clem Applesauce Cake" "Wally's 7-Up(r) Pound cake" "Ellie's Apple Crisp"....
Delightful is right! For reading, cooking and eating!
