Aunt Dimity February 15, 2007
Everyone’s favorite sleuth heads to the Rocky Mountains in the twelfth installment of Nancy Atherton’s cozy mystery series

Lori Sheppard barely survived her last adventure in Scotland before she’s off on her next. This time in the mountain town of Bluebird, Colorado. No sooner than she’s arrived do things start to go amiss. Someone has mysteriously disappeared, a charming and charismatic man seems to know more than he’s letting on, and the whole town is hiding a dark secret. With Aunt Dimity’s help, Lori sets out to solve a hundred-year-old mystery and discovers in the process that sometimes the strangest places can seem the most like home.

Nancy Atherton’s Aunt Dimity series has charmed its way into the hearts of mystery fans through eleven installments. In Aunt Dimity Goes West, Atherton’s vivid storytelling and knack for bringing a setting to life will have fans lassoed to their chairs and guessing to the very end.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

In her twelfth case, Lori Shepherd travels to Bluebird, Colorado, hoping to escape the lingering effects of her last adventure, during which she was shot and almost killed by a madman. Lori, her five-year-old twins, and their nanny, Annelise, will spend the summer at the Aerie, a luxurious log cabin owned by a friend of Lori's husband, Danny Auerbach. When they arrive, they find the caretaker has left unexpectedly, and a 21-year-old college student, Toby, is set to take his place. Lori soon learns the site is thought to be cursed, the result of a long-ago mining accident, and that the Auerbach family hasn't used the cabin since Christmas, when they left hurriedly. Aunt Dimity, Lori's spectral friend, offers her usual sage advice through a blue journal. The beautiful surroundings and new friends, very reminiscent of her friends back home in England, help Lori heal. A humorous, satisfying cozy with exceptionally likable characters. Sue O'Brien

"Atherton's series is for those who like the puzzle of a mystery minus the corpses. . . . This is the way life really ought to be if only we were all better behaved. Put on the teakettle and enjoy."

Ms. Atherton has a charming series with Aunt Dimity. This one takes the characters to Colorado for a "vacation" for the jangle nerves of the central character who in the last installment was seriously accosted and almost killed in the Scottish highlands.
the plot is not terribly earthshattering as the last one, but it is engaging. It would have been nice to have less catering to the twins as it seems they are really taking more of center stage in each new volume. I would have like to have more of Aunt Dimity- maybe even writing in something besides the blue notebook????

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Wait!, February 18, 2007

I feel like I've waited forever for this next in the series book. It was absolutely worth the wait. The previous book was a disappointment because Aunt Dimity was rarely mentioned. In this book you get a bonus, not only Aunt Dimity but a new "ghost" in the blue journal comes through. A great mystery, a friend revisited and a joy to read. Please start with her first in the series so that you are familiar with Aunt Dimity - reading the last first will make no sense. Have a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars another winner !, May 7, 2007
This review is from: Aunt Dimity Goes West (Hardcover)
Atherton's series about Lorri & Aunt Dimity are always fun, intertwined with mystery and an almost believable story. Here she & the twins & their nanny head for Colorado to aid in Lori's medical & psychological recovery (from the last book). Almost immediately she discovers a mystery and curse involving the 'cabin' where they are staying. How can one woman always find herself in these situations?!?! But you know it will be a happy ending! Enjoy a fast, fun read!
