5.0 out of 5 stars How can this NOT be good??
Did you like the first one? Have you listened to their BBC radio shows? If you liked them then this shall aim to please. The orb has this way of making their music seem like you are doing more than just listing to songs. News anouncers from one side, while a small and somewhat familiar piano and guitar riff slowly comes in and out while the dub bass keeps on rolling and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good sequel
I really liked Vol 1 (4 - 4 1/2 *'s), but would have passed on this were it not for the inexplicable (to me) rave reviews here. The samples were downright annoying and most of the music was just plain forgetable. Definitely not up to the standards of other Orb must-haves. I listened to it two or three times after purchase and it's sat on the rack since then. A...

The orb has this way of making their music seem like you are doing more than just listing to songs. News anouncers from one side, while a small and somewhat familiar piano and guitar riff slowly comes in and out while the dub bass keeps on rolling and rolling then birds chirp and suddenly you're in a world of ambient silence, which mostly, is not silent at all. Continuing to create excellent covers in full orb style!!! orb delivers!!! You ever hear those remixes that sound almost like the original?? Well not this dual disc. Infull orb force, this is what the orb does best. Not a bad song on here. Get this. Feel the love. Dig the music kids. Good music does'nt last forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Ole Fashioned Orb Fun, September 12, 2001

Not only does this sound like original Orb material, but it sounds more like vintage Orb material. Back to the days of Live 93 and UFO Orb, not like some of their more disappointing later releases (i.e. their last 2).
Back to loopy beats, groovey bass lines, Floydian sound non-sequitors, and full brain damaged chill room fun. As a rabid Orb fan, its nice to see them going back to this direction. It doesn't approach their pinnacle achievement of Orbus Terrarum but then again what else ever has? Keep churning the Aubrey's groove out guys, I'll gladly pay my hard earned for any follow ups you care to treat us to.

4.0 out of 5 stars More Incredible Orb Remixes!, September 7, 2001

This is a very worthy follow-up to Vol. 1 of the Orb remixes, which came out a few years ago. What's great about these remixes is that the songs basically become Orb songs, with only snippets and pieces of whatever original they're working with. So, basically you can look at this as a new 2-CD Orb release, even though many of the tracks on here are quite old. Typical great Orb beats, ambient washes, great sound and spoken word samples. A lot of these are pretty hard to find, so this is a great collection! The Meat Beat Manifesto remix of "Radio Babylon" alone is worth the price, plus there's remixes of artists as diverse as System 7, The Grid, Lisa Stansfield, Can, and many more! If you like the Orb, run to your nearest record store and pick this up!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Rule Britania, April 3, 2002

I just like to pint out the crucial fact that this ablum, in its American form, is quite simply amazing. Those of you lucky enough to have purchased the british release however, I really have to say, you've got your mitts on so much more.
The US album is a fine piece of music but nothing on it, nothing at all, can compare to the KLF, Primal Scream and Oldfield songs exclusive to my Ol' Blighty release, bless it. Having at some time in my life owned both versions, and as a life long Orb fan... well, that is to say, my life only really began when i discovered the Orb, I'm cannot let this one slip...

1.0 out of 5 stars Distorted, September 17, 2001
This review is from: Auntie Aubrey's Excursions Beyond the Call of Duty, vol. 2 (Audio CD)
Perhaps I'm missing something here. Perhaps I'm missing the same album that others are loving....For in TX I have this record and am very disappointed.

The tracks presented here are a somewhat pleasant mixture albeit a bit fragmented in places due to the over use of samples . Although some sounded rather dated this record reminds me of a UFOrb / Orblivion hybrid - that being the 'worst' ( if there is such a thing ) parts of UFOrb mixed with the better sections of the latter. Not bad at all.

Anyway what really upsets me is the quality of the recording. In a word it's horrid. It has very little dynamic range. 80 percent of the tracks have inexcusable distortion. The deep bass suffers the most. Every hit of beat is distorted. It sounds as if the volume level meters were in the red during the whole mastering session ...This is unacceptable.
Just to clarify, the distortion is not the type that works say in an Aphex Twin release or like what occurs on an old recording. This is just plain bad.
I mean, isn't that what we want from an Orb release. To go places, to bathe in the mastery of layering textures and otherworldly instrumentation? To trance?
Not so when the quality is bad enough to cause distraction. Very disappointing. Listen to this carefully in a record shop before purchase if I were you.

hey, this CD is really cool...good job!
All tracks have personality, a "sparkling" example of electronic music contaminating other genres...
