After raving about this diffuser, it quit working. I've never had one quit working before unless I tried to clean it over-zealously with too much water. Taking away one star, but ordering another. The oil itself is pleasant and very soothing.I love these diffusers. This package was the cheapest way to get one, with Amazon Prime (or something else to add up to over $25 & get free shipping). For the price, they simply cannot be beat. Since this is the best price for the item, get it and use with any natural, essential oil you choose (more on that later). I haven't used this with infants. I didn't think there was anything that could be down with a bawling child, hence the book Go the F**k to Sleep. It soothes me, and seems to quiet my soon-to-be ex-husband sometimes. If you need long lasting fragrance, you will need a more expensive nebulizer with a timer. Over the course of at least 13 yrs, probably closer to 16, I have 'burnt out' at least 2 by negligently leaving them plugged into the wall for months, killing the heating element. There was no reason to do this, the oils are completely diffused within a matter of hours, I simply forgot in underused areas like the basement. These diffusers aren't particularly attractive. If your outlets require you to place it in a position other than horizontal, the pad may come out of contact with the heating element, greatly lessening its effectiveness. If the pad is not heated directly, the oils diffuse much more slowly. Depending upon the situation, that can mean they are unnoticeable, or that the fragrance is milder but lasts longer. This can be resolved by using a multi-plug AC adaptor providing the option of putting it at different angles (but making it protrude further from the wall). I stick mine hidden behind or below furniture, so that does not matter. I have never used one in an area larger than 12 x 30. The closer one is to it, the stronger the smell is. Soak a pad with an oil that is not extremely heavy and your room and the one next to it will be filled with natural fragrance within 15 minutes. Natural oils do not last, so that it only lasts a few hours. If you use too much oil, they are diffused too rapidly that your room will be TOO filled with fragrance. How rapidly each is diffused depends upon the viscosity and molecular weight of each oil, so it is trial and error. Play around with it before you have company, but give your nose time to rest between attempts, too. Before attempting to use this or any other warmer with NON essential oils, remember that those are artificial, unregulated and there are no laws requiring ingredients to be disclosed. There is no way to know exactly what artificial substances you are pumping into your air, nose, sinuses and lungs. This is also a much healthier way to fragrance your air than the smoke of incense. Hints: Fragrance obscures other smells, not eliminates them. If your house stank of liver before using this, it will smell again when the oil wears off. If that is your issue, try an air purifier, an ionizer or a product like Smells Be Gone. Stock up on pads, they can be difficult to find! When company is coming, throw in some oils that are commonly used in cleaning, such as lemon, orange, cedar and rosemary, and it will create the impression that you clean more than you do and probably that the environment is cleaner than it is. The effect of scent is largely unconscious. Studies have shown that both men and women find natural vanilla to be attractive and arousing. During cold and allergy seasons, peppermint, eucalyptus or camphor will help open the respiratory tract. I would strongly recommend against AURA CACIA, Essential Oil Patchouli (pogostemon cabin) - .5 fl oz alone. Guests may think you use it to cover the smell of marijuana, and it lingers on & on. After 2 weeks on 2 drops (couldn't make the bottle drop just 1 drop), my apartment still smells of it. I am curious about some of the blends with it, like Essential Solutions Oil Chill Pill - .5 oz - EssOil. There may be better brands than Aura Cacia, but I have been satisfied with it for 22 yrs. Even an extremely expensive oil like Sandalwood is still reasonable with a thinned version Aura Cacia Precious Essentials Sandalwood Blended with Jojoba Oil -- 0.5 fl oz. Thinned works fine with that oil. Whatever you do, thin Jasmine AURA CACIA, Precious Essentials Oil Jasmine Absolute w/Jojoba - .5 fl oz. At full strength it is offensive, strongly thinned it is lovely if still quite floral. I have smelled better versions of Essential Oil Neroli and Jojoba 0.50 Ounces, but theirs may not be thinned enough. NOW Foods, GRAPE SEED OIL 4 OZ ( Multi-Pack) was recommended by a professional blender as the best product with which to thin oils. Thinning means you might need to waste some of your pricey oils, or get brown bottles Boston Round Bottles, 2 Oz Pack of 12 in which to store the larger volume of thinned oil.
