4.0 out of 5 stars Did wonders for bass response
This is a quick review, but I thought I'd throw my two cents in.

I bought these pads with the intention of tightening up the bass response of my monitors. The difference was immediately noticeable. I first tested them on my glass desk just to get an idea of how much isolation was really taking place in a worst case scenario. I'll be honest, in my opinion...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not for studio
The Pads help: but they don't isolate. You still have a lot of bass going straight into the desk. I have 2 KRK Rokit 5s on the pads and have my Mackie 824's really isolated. I bought them pads at guitar-center in Boston, not at amazon and I paid USD 30.--.
The pads are nice, but way below studio quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Did wonders for bass response, November 30, 2009

This is a quick review, but I thought I'd throw my two cents in.

I bought these pads with the intention of tightening up the bass response of my monitors. The difference was immediately noticeable. I first tested them on my glass desk just to get an idea of how much isolation was really taking place in a worst case scenario. I'll be honest, in my opinion the glass desk was still pretty unbearable.

Fortunately, I have speaker stands, and when used with the auralex pads, the bass sounded much more accurate with distinct separation. In addition, the tightening of the bass seemed to clean up the overall response of the monitors, effectively creating a sharper listening experience.

Initially, I was hesitant to spend roughly forty bucks on foam pads. After checking out some reassuring reviews and realizing that making my own would require more effort and research than I was willing to give, I decided to take the small risk. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase.

Also, the ability of the pads to isolate while tilting your monitors upwards or downwards is a welcome benefit.

My desk used to act as a low-frequency resonator, tainting my mixes and attracting dangerous spirits. Now it's like my monitors are floating above my desk. I no longer hear my desk playing my music, even with my ear to the surface!

The Auralex MOPAD Monitor Isolation Pads come with 8 pieces of foam. 2 pairs of bottom pieces and 2 pairs of thinner wedges to change the angle that the monitors sit. This is a good design in that they will accommodate a wide range of monitor sizes.

The MOPADs do a good job on 2 fronts. first, they isolate your monitors from the surface they are sitting on which helps tighten up their low end. Second, they give you the ability to change the tilt angle of the monitors so the tweeters are aimed directly at your ears.

These would easily rate a five star rating except for their price. It seems that about half of what they sell for would be right for a bunch of pieces of foam. That said, I still bought them and I'm glad I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really do make a difference, August 23, 2010
This review is from: Auralex MOPAD Monitor Isolation Pads, Charcoal, 1 pair (Electronics)
I bought these thinking these might help a little but man was I wrong...I bought new M-Audio BX5a monitors and wanted the best possible sound of of them. Well I put one monitor up on of the pads and one without and closed my eyes and panned left and right to get a feel for the difference. The monitor with the pad actually absorbed quite a bit of resonance and provided a tighter bass response :) The monitor without the pad sounded pretty bad compared to the other one, I could hear that the bass was muddy and a slightly boomy. I have these on a wooden computer desk. I would highly recommended these if you are an audiophile or simply want your speakers or monitors to sound cleaner. Individual results may vary as every setup is different but these definitely made a difference for me and I feel that I got these for a decent price!

I purchased these to provide some downward tilt for my center channel speaker that sits on top of a very large armoire. The acoustic isolation is very helpful as well because it doesn't allow the furniture to resonate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for home theater, June 6, 2009

This review is from: Auralex MOPAD Monitor Isolation Pads, Charcoal, 1 pair (Electronics)
Home theaters with front projection screens have a problem. For best sound, the center channel speaker should ideally be placed in the center of the screen. Unless you can put it behind the screen (an expensive option), the center channel speaker ends up on a short stand below instead. As a result, the sound is somewhat chesty; any floor covering eats the highs while emphasizing the bass and mids.

The Auralex MoPADs are a cost effective solution for safely tipping the center channel up towards the listening position and have the added benefit of decoupling the speaker from the stand. The result is open sound that closely matches the front speakers. Have a look at the two photos that I posted to see how we use them.

Highly recommended; however, unless you have two theater rooms, you'll have an extra pair of pads since the package comes with four.

Great at decoupling and controlling those phantom bass frequencies your desk or speaker stands may be contributing to. I'm surprised I took as long as I did to purchase these for my setup, because they are crucial.
Usually all of my upgrades are really expensive and only produce small improvements to my total studio experience, but these are very inexpensive and really cleaned up my low-end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, May 22, 2010
This review is from: Auralex MOPAD Monitor Isolation Pads, Charcoal, 1 pair (Electronics)
These foam pads do exactly as they are intended. They dampen the noise from the speakers to my desk to lessen vibration. Since buying these, don't think I've had a bit of a problem with vibration. Little high in price, but you get what you pay for. And they are stylish as well.
