Teen girl pop with serious groove, November 30, 2000
This review is from: Aurora (Audio CD)
We see them every day... pretty blonde teenage girls dancing, singing and strutting their stuff before the camera... but what we don't often see is a band with the class, finish and message that this group of Christian sisters have put together for this album.
The band has put together some good performances mixed with serious dance pop grooves to deliver a surprisingly good CD that will have younger listeners entranced, while taking the lyrics and message out of the typical teeny-bopper gutters. In short, this pop has soul.
It's refreshing not to be bombarded by the tired "oh boy, I love you" theme. The songs Aurora sing are well written, performed and produced.
The girls put fort a tight, well matched sound that reminds one of what Britney Spears would sound like if she were a little more tallented. While they don't quite display the soulful sound and dynamic range of Christina Aguilera, they more than hold their own against the best the pop world has to offer.
Red Hill Records rolled out some big guns in preparing this album. Production heavyweights John (of Kansas and many other projects) and Dino Elfante produced the album's first song, A World With You, which has a nice pop feel to it.
Perhaps the strongest song on the album is the hook-driven "Mercy Me". The sisters hit their stride on this number, which was released as the albums first single. This pop song is as good as any that have hit the radio this year. Producer David Browning brought out the groove on this (as well as the other songs that he produced on this album, all of which are quite well done). This is a song that's designed to thump subwoofers in a club environment, and is highly effective for DJ play at teen events.
If I have any gripe with the album it's in the marketing area... this album is better than 99 percent of the stuff that is hitting the streets in the teen market. It should be getting more radio play.

You'll love this CD, August 30, 2000
This review is from: Aurora (Audio CD)
I was at my friends church where they performed a couple of weeks ago and to tell you the truth I don't really like Christian music that much. When I hear them I fell in love with their music! It was so amazing that they could preach the word of God that way. They proved to me that Christian music isn't always boring. Since I heard them, I've been listening to a lot more Christain music! I thank them for helping me find the true meaning of God's word! If your into Pop/hip hop music then you'll love Aurora! They are very talented and I would recommend this album to everybody! THANKS GIRLS!!!!!!

Better Than Brittany Spears!, August 11, 2001
This review is from: Aurora (Audio CD)
My cousin gave my sister and I free enhanced cd's and my sister got Aurora. When I first listened to it I thought their music sounded almost like Brittany Spears'. And So I started liking their music. Plus they are a christian group and they talk about being close to God and Loving Him. Their songs are really pretty, funky and dancy. As sisters they work good together singing. I like all the songs but I love World With You, Outta my Head, Diffrent Drum and Before the Throne of God Above. If you are not comfertable with the words that Brittany Spears sings or other artists like her sing but like the music, Aurora is for you.
