Teen girl pop with serious groove,
By
This review is from: Aurora (Audio CD)
We see them every day... pretty blonde teenage girls dancing, singing and strutting their stuff before the camera... but what we don't often see is a band with the class, finish and message that this group of Christian sisters have put together for this album. The band has put together some good performances mixed with serious dance pop grooves to deliver a surprisingly good CD that will have younger listeners entranced, while taking the lyrics and message out of the typical teeny-bopper gutters. In short, this pop has soul. It's refreshing not to be bombarded by the tired "oh boy, I love you" theme. The songs Aurora sing are well written, performed and produced. The girls put fort a tight, well matched sound that reminds one of what Britney Spears would sound like if she were a little more tallented. While they don't quite display the soulful sound and dynamic range of Christina Aguilera, they more than hold their own against the best the pop world has to offer. Red Hill Records rolled out some big guns in preparing this album. Production heavyweights John (of Kansas and many other projects) and Dino Elfante produced the album's first song, A World With You, which has a nice pop feel to it. Perhaps the strongest song on the album is the hook-driven "Mercy Me". The sisters hit their stride on this number, which was released as the albums first single. This pop song is as good as any that have hit the radio this year. Producer David Browning brought out the groove on this (as well as the other songs that he produced on this album, all of which are quite well done). This is a song that's designed to thump subwoofers in a club environment, and is highly effective for DJ play at teen events. If I have any gripe with the album it's in the marketing area... this album is better than 99 percent of the stuff that is hitting the streets in the teen market. It should be getting more radio play.

I was at my friends church where they performed a couple of weeks ago and to tell you the truth I don't really like Christian music that much. When I hear them I fell in love with their music! It was so amazing that they could preach the word of God that way. They proved to me that Christian music isn't always boring. Since I heard them, I've been listening to a lot more Christain music! I thank them for helping me find the true meaning of God's word! If your into Pop/hip hop music then you'll love Aurora! They are very talented and I would recommend this album to everybody! THANKS GIRLS!!!!!!

Better Than Brittany Spears!,
By Becky (Roseville, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aurora (Audio CD)
My cousin gave my sister and I free enhanced cd's and my sister got Aurora. When I first listened to it I thought their music sounded almost like Brittany Spears'. And So I started liking their music. Plus they are a christian group and they talk about being close to God and Loving Him. Their songs are really pretty, funky and dancy. As sisters they work good together singing. I like all the songs but I love World With You, Outta my Head, Diffrent Drum and Before the Throne of God Above. If you are not comfertable with the words that Brittany Spears sings or other artists like her sing but like the music, Aurora is for you.

Christian Mom likes Aurora for her Pre-Teens,

As a mom of 11 and 8 year old girls, I was thrilled to find another alternative to Brittney, Christina, etc. Aurora is filled with fast beat songs that kids can listen to over and over again. The best part of the repitition is that the message is suitable for Christian kids!!

I cant stop listening to it - or singing along! Aurora is 3 sisters - beautiful,Christian, talented. Their harmony is beautiful, the music has a catchy dance vibe, and the lyrics are Christian - a great combination! one thing I really like is that the songs don't all sound alike - like they do on lots of CDs. I really reccommend this cd if you like the upbeat pop sound of Britney and Christina - but don't like their image or lyrics!

A great pop album by a group of 3 christian sisters. This Cd has some great production and some good lyrics. Just isnt my type of music. I did like the dance song "different drum" and the ballad "If you dont Love Me Anymore." Also a great duet with Jeff Deyo (Sonicflood) on the classic Hymn "Before the Throne of God Above." Great teen pop album that is better than alot of the junk that is released now. Definetly something that you and your teens can listen to and you dont have to worry about the lyrics or subject matter.

Pleasing power pop,

Having been into modern rock (alternative) more than any other music for the previous five years, I don't know what got into me last year that I suddenly had a craving for pop music. I bought this Aurora album and V*enna's album at the same time. (I intended to buy Zoegirl and Stacy Orrico, too, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I like Aurora and V*enna better anyway.)V*enna is a British duo and that shows in their music, with their European pop sounds (i.e. ABBA-esque vocals). Aurora's sound differs by carrying its American influences--heavier guitars and more Latin influence. Tracks #2 & #8 are clearly Latin sounding, with "Loving Me Like You Do" being a fast, festive song, while "Outta My Head" is mid-tempo. The opening track is very Britney sounding, and "Mercy Me" has some great heavy (pop) guitar backing. I hate ballads, so I don't like "If You Didn't Love Me Anymore," but I can't complain about a pop album that only makes you suffer through one ballad. The last two songs are kind of weak. Particularly "Different Drum," which acts like it wants to be a danceable track, but it's not, and ends up being frustrating. The first five songs on this CD jam, followed by a mid-tempo jazz number, "Forget Me Not" (and I've already described the others)...so it's a lively album, and of good quality. Out of the 90 CDs I acquired in 2001, this was in my Top 15 favorites at #6.

I got the cd a couple of days ago...and I love it! It's just awesome. I read in the ccm review of them that their names should be brittany, christina, and mandy. That is so true. I just LOVE this record and recommend it to ANYONE who loves pop music. These girls ROCK!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Aurora (Audio CD)
I am listening to this CD right now and I have to say that it is an exceptionally well-done CD. Aurora has put a variety of songs on this CD, from Before the throne of God to A World with You. This is my favorite CD out of all the CDs that I own. A World with You is my favorite song in the world and my favorite song on the CD. Before the throne of God Above is the next best song. I also really like Finer Love and Mercy Me. This whole CD is awesome! I can't wait until Aurora comes out with their third CD. I'll buy it, no matter how long it takes them to make their next CD. I hope they have a new CD coming soon. I like almost all of the songs on this album (8 out of 10.) Song number 7 is OK. My CD player is probably tired of this CD. It is in the CD player almost all of the time. I have listened to these songs over and over and I don't know if I'll ever "get over them" or stop listening to this CD. I hope that the CD doesn't croak on me from overplay! Aurora is a great band. So is V*enna. Even though these bands aren't the most popular in the world, they will still be 2 of my favorites. Aurora is my favorite band. I love this CD!! It is the best in my collection. Please give it a try! You'll probably like it. It is no doubt a unique CD and very trendy. I love to dance and sing to it (even if I can't dance very well!) This is not the normal CD. It is above average and is put together very well. I wouldn't want to change anything about it. The only thing that I'd change about the band is that they should make a CD every year!! Their music is really good! Aurora is the best! The lyrics are good, too. Everything is really good! I love the message of this band and what they stand for. They want to reach people for God through music. It is my dream to write songs and make music someday, too. This CD is really an inspiration. I want to reach people for God, too. Here are the tracks:
1. A World With You 2. Loving Me Like You Do 3. Finer Love 4. Mercy Me 5. Life in Your Hands 6. Forget Me Not 7. If You Didn't Love Me Anymore 8. Outta My Head 9. Before the Throne of God Above 10. Different Drum Here are my reviews for the tracks: 1. A World With You-- As I said earlier, this is my favorite track on the CD & in the world. It is a great song! I have to dance to this one! I have probably listened to this song a million times, but I don't think that I'll ever get over it. I love the lyrics! 2. Loving Me Like You Do-- Not quite as good as A World With You, but it's still a good song. I haven't listened to this one a million times, but it's still a good song. I love the message to it! 3. Finer Love-- A good song...one of my favorites on the album. It has a great message about how God will always love you. A great song, fast-paced and one that is great to dance to! 4. Mercy Me-- One of the more fast-paced songs on the album, it has great lyrics and keeps up the great work on the album. 5. Life in Your Hands-- A fast-paced one (again, but not a bad thing!), this one isn't "the best" on the album, but I do still like it. I just don't really listen to it as much as I listen to songs #1, #3, and #4. 6. Forget Me Not-- This song is just not a really good song. It has never really got me going. It's one of the not-so-great songs on the album, but it doesn't ruin the album. I just skip over this song. It is probably the worst on the album. Really, every album has at least one bad song! There's no escaping that! 7. If You Didn't Love Me Anymore-- One of the worst songs on the album. I listen to it occasionally, but it's just not the best. I like the more fast-paced songs on this album. 8. Outta My Head-- This one's a good one! Really cool and fast-paced! 9. Before the Throne of God Above-- This is a great song. I love the message in it! It tells a great story of what Jesus did for us so that we can have eternal life and be sinless before God. If you don't get this CD for any other song, get it for this one! Even people who aren't really fans of Contemporary Christian music will like this song. It is an exceptionally good song. Although it is not fast-paced, it's still really good. It has great lyrics and an important message. 10. Different Drum-- Fun song! One that's actually supposed to get you dancing! All in all, this a great CD! I highly recommend it to anyone of any music genre!

An unexpected delight,

I purchased this CD merely because it said it was good Christian pop. I love the first three songs on the CD; I've played them so many times my player is almost sick of them. They're upbeat, perky, and meaningful. I don't like all the tracks, however; a few could be better produced and have too slow a beat. But I don't regret my purchase.
