If you are an avid classical listener or collector, then you really should have a version of the Op. 33 quartets in your collection. These quartets are considered to be Haydn's first mature set, and from this perspective they are landmark works in the classical cannon. I sprang for this set because online website Classics Today gave it it's highest rating. The quartet playing is impeccable- brilliant intonation and intelligent, witty execution. The guys really get the "Joke"; it's the best studio version I've heard (it's always amusing to hear it live).

If anyone has other versions of this set I'd welcome comparative discussion. The Aurin Quartet play on modern instruments but seem to have done their homework in historic practices.

the auryn quartet is totally magnificent and their playing seems so seemless and completely team oriented..no standouts here.seems like they are having a lot of fun and that projects into the enjoyment.highly recommended. also the recording is great for all you audiofile buffs.
