This was a well-written, very enjoyable and easy read - made even more special by the fact that we knew this lovely couple before they moved countries. Living in South Africa made it especially relevant as so many friends and family have undertaken similar journeys, and one often wonders what the transition was REALLY like, 'warts and all'. The book was entertaining throughout, well-organised, with lovely illustrations to round it off. Well done Lois.

For anyone who is thinking about emigrating to Australia or there already, this book is a MUST read. It makes you realise that you're not the only one going through the emotional ups and downs. It was such an inspiration for me when I read just before leaving South Africa. I read it on the plane over to Australia and finished it shortly after we arrived. Some people may want to read it BEFORE they decide to emigrate.... I thoroughly enjoyed this book, was sad when it came to the end.

A fun and highly entertaining read about a family's experiences as they leave the country of their birth (South Africa), and make their home more than six thousand kilometers away, in Australia. Lois Nicholls has a rare and natural gift of writing with humour - and I laughed out loud on many occasions as I read this delightful book about her family's mishaps and misunderstandings as they attempt to adapt and blend in to a land that is culturally quite different to one they've grown up with all their lives.
Anyone who has emigrated at any stage of their lives, or perhaps had family who've made this daunting decision, will immediately relate to many of the funny stories Lois tells - and those who are considering it in the future are also strongly encouraged to give this book a read, to prepare them for all the little things not mentioned by the emigration services - even if just to help them keep their sense of humour through the journey.
