For those of you who thought another Austin Powers movie would become nothing more than a forgotten sequel, I have two words for you: Fat Bastard. For those of you who thought another Austin Powers movie would become nothing more than a forgotten sequel, I have two words for you: Fat Bastard. The Introduction of another character played by Mike Myers only makes this sequel better. You must remember that Jay Roach and company are working with whatever they please; as long as Mike Myers goes along with it. And as long as Mike likes it, it'll be good.

In this laughable comedy, we are introduced to more new and great characters such as: Mini-me (played by Verne Troyer), Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham), and a younger version of Number 2 played by Rob Lowe. There are so many laughs in the movie I don't even know where to begin. How about Mustafa's reappearance or maybe Fat Bastard trying to eat Mini-me. They just never stop. Again, we have a similar storyline along with a similar ending: 30...29...28... you get the idea. I have a feeling that Mike's not done quite yet in producing laughs. I'm really looking forward to Austin Powers 3. It'll be smashing, baby!

Anyway, that's enough of that. If you liked the first Austin Powers movie you'll definitly like this one. Heck, you might even enjoy it more. Otherwise, if you didn't like the first movie you won't like this one either. Give it a shot, it's worth it.

One more thing, make sure you watch to the very very end of the credits to find out what actually happens to Mustafa. It's too good to miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shagwell by day, Shag VERY well by reputation!, November 30, 1999
The rating of PG-13 is almost an under-rate! The content in this movie is quite adult oriented, but yet a great laugh. Even though there are many spin-off's of the first movie (ex. shh and zip it), this movie gets better the more you watch it. You can't just watch it once because I too didn't like it at first, but the more you watch the more you pick up the humor! VERY entertaining! Buy this movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD, April 18, 2000
By A Customer
Tons of extras...deleted scenes, a feature length commentary, interviews, music videos, lots of entertaining stuff. I was surprised they were able to put the whole thing on one side of a DVD.

As for the movie itself, Dr. Evil's disfunctional relationship with his son Scott is hilarious. Mini Me...Rob Lowe as a young Number 2... Frau...the whole Jerry Springer scene was great. As for the time travel inaccuracies, well...duh. I mean, we're not talking 2001:A Space Odyssey here. It's a frickin' comedy. It's about having FUN, being SILLY.

My advice: If you're too uptight to just enjoy this movie, if you absolutely MUST analyze every scene, then go rent "Contact" and leave the rest of us alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mike Meyers does it again..., December 12, 1999

Outstanding sequel... Mike Meyers' characters are incredibly funny. The "Ausin Powers:SHSM" deleted scenes on the DVD were the reson I purchased my DVD player. The jokes piggy back the first movie while maintaining originality and humor.

True fans of Mike Meyers and the SNL alumni will thoroughly enjoy this movie. However, the fly-by-night, listens to top-40 music fan may be dissappointed in the similarities between this and the first movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ladies and gentlemen I am about to travel through time....., May 8, 2000
You must have been living under a rock for the last three or so years if you are not familiar with Austin Powers and Doctor Evil and their abundance of instantly recognisable catchphrases. The sequel to the very popular Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery takes the ideas from the first film and turns them on its head. Instead of having two people from the sixties living in the nineties, we send Austin and Dr. Evil (who have now acclimatised to the nineties) back to the late 1960s. Love it or loathe it, The Spy Who Shagged me is one of the funniest films ever made. The DVD is also very good, with an excellent audio and visual digital transfer. The extra features are spectacular, with hilarious directors commentary, deleted scenes that you wonder why they were dropped from the final film and a huge range of other treats. A SPECIAL HIDDEN MENU which is accessed by going to the 'special features' menu and leaveing it for about 2 mins then a special Dr Evil symbol appears click on it for some extra hidden features Even the animated menus are brilliant. The Spy Who Shagged Me is a DVD that should be everybody's collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the original, November 26, 1999
Not up to the standard of the first film (too much is simply repeated from the first film). However, still very funny.

The best bit of this DVD is the plethora of extra fetures, with some very good out-takes. Also, the quality of the picture is amongst the best I have in my DVD collection and the sound is excellent (although it does not really get the chance to shine like, say, the Matrix).

Overall, an excellent package for an above average to very good film.

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as #1!, November 22, 1999
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I never got a chance to see this one in the theater so I bought it right away when it came out on DVD. I have to tell you that DVD is AWESOME (this was my first DVD movie, certainly not going to be my last though!) The extras that you get on DVD are worth the price of the disc by itself!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sophomoric but still amusing, April 22, 2000
By A Customer
This sequel to Mike Meyer's 1997 hit is a highly amusing journey into the strange. The constant mocking of 90's pop-culture is cleverly done, and much appreciated (who isn't sick of "Talk to the hand!") The Springer scene was hilarious. The supporting characters were well-cast, and, as before, Dr. Evil outshines Austin Powers as the most amusing and interesting person in the movie. I agree with other comments made here that if you are a person who only wants to overanalyze everything that you see in a movie, for God's sake, watch something else. Movies like this aren't meant to challenge your intellect. They are here to make you laugh, and there is nothing wrong with enjoying something totally sophomoric on occassion. The major problem with this movie is that Meyer's always seems to drag jokes out for too long, not knowing when to let a scene die. He squeezes every last drop of life from a joke before he lets it go. But overall, this is simply a simple, foolish movie that was meant to be laughed at. People seem to forget that it isn't supposed to be Citizen Kane. Stop overanalyzing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Powers, Austin Powers!, February 7, 2000
I have read many of the reviews of this movie, and cannot believe how 'deep and meaningful' so many people expected this movie to be! It was absolutely brilliant, as was the first one, and , come on people, it is a COMEDY! I think that this film was not specifically directed at teenagers. I am a woman in her 40's that was delighted that I had been given the video tapes as a christmas gift. I am also British, and was raised on James Bond films (Sean Connery is STILL the sexiest man alive!) I loved all of the 'spoofs' of many of the bond movies, and Myers was brilliant in his portrayal of all of the roles. I loved the 'Fat Bastard' character. Unfortunately, I've met a few men from Glasgow that look a lot like him! May I suggest to those of you reading this before watching the movie, that you pour yourself a glass of wine, settle back in your chair and enjoy this barrel of laughs. And PLEASE, don't be too serious about this, it is pure unadulterated fun, and the level of your IQ is totally unimportant. Oh! and look out for Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach, they add an extra treat.
