1.0 out of 5 stars 1 star for no, ALIVE
the advertisement for this cd here says that the song, Alive, is on this album. I got this album and nowhere can I find this track. Shame on the advertisers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome work by Edwin, July 15, 2003
This review is from: Austin Sessions (Audio CD)
I was lucky enough to catch Edwin McCain live in Boston earlier this year. Before that I wasn't very familiar with his music aside from his radio ballads, so I was really surprised how much he absolutely. rocked. the. house. Besides being an amazing vocalist, the music ranged from earthy roots-rock to his signature love songs. He is a sensitive, often hilarious, storyteller with his words and guitar. When I heard his latest cd was an all-acoustic set, I purchased it almost immediately. Since then it's quickly become one of my all-time favorites!

Highlights include "Ghosts of Jackson Square," "Go Be Young," a heartbreaking cover of "Romeo and Juliet" and the new hit "I Want it All." To top it off, there's a multimedia extra in the cd which includes some clips from Edwin's DVD (Mile Marker), and a stirring performance of "I'll Be."

This is pure Edwin at his best. I can't say enough good things about this cd. Buy it, hear it, love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Edwin McCain & his band are EXTREMELY talented, November 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Austin Sessions (Audio CD)
I'm one of those music fans that enjoys alot of different music....I simply appreciate talent, especially with all of the manufactured music and entertainment that goes on. I'm a HUGE fan of Edwin McCain, and in the course of listening to all of his music, and going to his shows, I've also realized how amazingly talented his band is. I simply love the Austin Sessions CD, perhaps because I am already a fan, but the sound, his voice, the songs.....I just can't say enough. I highly recommend Edwin McCains music, and the Austin Sessions is the cherry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Edwin McCain at his finest, August 2, 2003

This review is from: Austin Sessions (Audio CD)
I've always liked Edwin McCain, and I have a couple of his early CDs. But until I picked up this CD, I had no idea how absolutely talented this man was. I buy a lot of CDs, and this is easily the best one I've picked up this year. From "I Want it All" to "Beautiful Day" to an absolutely fabulous version of "Go Be Young," there isn't a single bad song on this CD.

Just buy it, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Disappointed!, March 28, 2003

This review is from: Austin Sessions (Audio CD)
I anticipated the release date for this album for about a month. The day it came out I was at the record store to pick up my copy. When I got home to listen to it, I was not disappointed. All of the anticipation was not wasted. I have to say that this was one of the best albums that I've bought in quite some time (and I buy a lot of music). Usually when I buy an album I only hear three or four songs that I really like but I loved every song on this album and I've played it to death since I bought it almost a month ago! This album is full of excellence--musically, lyrically, and performance wise. It's well worth the adding to your collection today!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Edwin. It doesn't get any better than this except LIVE!, March 6, 2003

This CD is the answer to the requests of Edwin's die-hard fans & friends for years! He never lets us down on content either! Want to hear what it is like to be there IN PERSON ... minus all of the crowd noise? This is it. Just turn the lights low and get ready for your heart to be touched over and over again. For all those elements of your life when you couldn't find the words... he's got 'em. And the humor sprinkled around shows you that this is PURE EDWIN. It will leave you with a smile you may have trouble wiping off your face!

He is without a doubt the consumate singer, songwriter, lyricist, storyteller... The single "I Want It All" is haunting to anyone truly in love! "Wino's Lullaby" tugs on your heart strings; it has to be one of Edwin's best songs ever!!! "Beautiful Day" was co-written by Pete Riley [Treehouse]; a totally different sound! Romeo & Juliet has been a TREASURE to Edwin's oldest fans. We've been asking for this recording for years, and this version could not be more perfect. "Little Girls" ... Can't you just see the guys in the band sitting around writing this one? It's great fun! You won't just smile, you will laugh!!! Thanks for this one, Edwin, Larry, Pete & Phillip. "Island Song" is another favorite of the Edwin following. Only one listen will show you why it is Edwin's favorite song! "Ghosts," "Sorry to a Friend" & "Go Be Young" are even more beautiful than the original versions. "Popcorn Box" and "No Choice" will make you stop and think... and think. "Let Is Slide" is a true story about a recent Memphis visit. You'll be humming this for days!

As always, Edwin has out-done himself. This guy needs more public recognition for his talent... He is sooo much more than "I'll Be!" You may rest assured that the fans that consider themselves his FRIENDS have known for years what the rest of the world just may discover with Austin Sessions. GO EDWIN!!! YOU ARE AMAZING! Amazing!!! Thanks for doing this one for us!

A forever fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! EM doesn't disappoint! But wait till you see the NEW CD!, January 8, 2006
This review is from: Austin Sessions (Audio CD)
Well, I guess I have to admit, I have NEVER heard a BAD Edwin CD. I just haven't. I LOVE good music; I have no patience for even mediocre music. This CD is one of Edwin's finest! ---

Austin Sessions is for ME... and for all of the people who truly enjoy his live shows. It is a true example of what you get LIVE. So, if you haven't had the chance to see a LIVE acoustic Edwin McCain concert, get Austin Sessions, turn the lights down loooooowwwwww, and just soak it in. You WON'T be sorry! ---

To go a step further, if you want to see how multi-talented Edwin McCain is, get Far From Over, too! I think what I love best about FFO is the fact that you can get EVERY STYLE of music there that Edwin performs. Jazz, Hard Rock, Soft Rock, Ballads, Folk, WHATEVER! BTW, anyone who has been touched in ANY way by adoption... given up a child for adoption, adopted a child or even been adopted... you need this CD. Edwin was adopted at birth by an amazingly wonderful and loving family. He does not know who his birth mother is. Listen to the song, "Letter to My Mother." It will just slay you. He is writing to his adopted Mom about how much he loves HER... and yet saying there is another woman out there that he loves... thanking her for giving him LIFE. AMAZING STORY, but an even more amazing song. Also, if you are a Christian, you will LOVE "Jesus, He Loves Me." It is a sort-of combination of Jesus Loves me and the Footprints poem. You can tell by listening that this is something coming from the depths of his spirit. He wrote and performed this song on the soundtrack, "Jesus: Music From & Inspired by the Epic Mini Series." This CD is also available on Amazon.com. Compare this song with the others, and tell me which one most openly tells about Jesus and His effect on a person's life. ---

Edwin is one-of-a-kind; a singer/songwriter like no other. Far From Over is one of the best EMB has ever given us. Just check out the sound clips above. Also go to the listing for the "Scream & Whisper" CD and listen to those clips. Couldn't Love You More is HANDS DOWN the most beautiful love song Edwin has ever written or performed. It surpasses "I'll Be," {{{I LOVE THAT SONG!!!}}} AND "I Could Not Ask For More." BTW, when Dr. Phil ran an online survey, announced on his TV show, asking for everyone's favorite WEDDING SONG, "I'll Be" not only won... [Dr. Phil had Edwin, Larry and Craig on the show to perform it.] it had more votes than ALL of the other songs COMBINED. Does that tell you something about the kind of music Edwin gives us? What an awesome talent! Scream & Whisper gives you a lot of insight into more than just his life over the past 30+ years... It also tells us what Edwin's personal life has been like the past couple of years... coming out of his recent past of drinking and usage of drugs, you can see the resulting clarity of him being clean; it shows in his songwriting AND his beautiful voice! ---

Now are you ready? The good news is there is a NEW CD on the way: "LOST IN AMERICA" is CD #8 for Edwin and his band. Anyone who attends his live concerts... hundreds of shows every year... has already heard him sing some of these songs. This CD is going to be even more amazing than the last. Scheduled release is April 11, so hopefully Amazon will be like Edwin.com and allow pre-orders so you can get one ASAP. This new CD will be Edwin's first since signing with Vanguard Records. It should be the beginning of many more great things to come! ---

Also, if you haven't already, go to iTunes and download "Hold Out a Hand," by Edwin McCain & Maia Sharp. Maia also performs, "Scream & Whisper," with Edwin on the S&W CD. They are together again on "Hold Out a Hand." All profits going to the victims of the hurricanes. It is a moving song... one of those typical Edwin songs that makes you look at your own heart and life by being painfully honest about his own. ---

While you are looking for more and more Edwin, send an email to angelpaz at earthlink.net and ask for information on obtaining a sampler CD of Dois Gemeos. That is a new CD by Larry Chaney {lead guitar for Edwin's band} and Craig Shields {sax and keys for EMB}. The new CD will be available in the Spring of 2006... but email about how to get the 5-song sampler. It is a Jazz/Bossa Nova style CD and even has a track with Pete Riley playing and Edwin on the vocal track. The final FULL CD will have contributions of each of the EMB guys on it.

Enjoy Austin Sessions... you won't be sorry you bought it! AND WATCH FOR THE NEW CD, "LOST IN AMERICA" THAT WILL BE RELEASED ON APRIL 11, 2006!

5.0 out of 5 stars Austin Sessions, December 13, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Austin Sessions (Audio CD)
Edwin Mccain shows he truly is talented beyond the studio and "fluff" today's musicians use to promote themselves. All of his music is good but this CD is exceptional. Why? Simply stated, it's acoustic and he is real. Someone commented about their disappointment that "the songs didn't sound like they do on the radio." Poppycock! They sound closer than any other "star" out there today. Edwin is down to earth and honest. His work shows it and his DVD's let you see it. I can only say, More, More, More! Please more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the price of admission, March 26, 2003

There are a lot of artists who's music is enjoyable entertainment, and easy to wait for the album to go on sale. Some you wait to show up in the music club special sale flyer and decide to go ahead and by it, or just download the MP3s of the most catchy tunes.

THIS IS A RECORDING WORTH PAYING RETAIL FOR!

It is a superbly produced performance of mostly new songs, showcasing Edwin's songwriting, along with better performances of a few prior chestnuts. The musicianship of his band; the timber and character of Edwin's vocals; nearly as good as a live performance and truly worth adding to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pure Classic, March 18, 2003
This review is from: Austin Sessions (Audio CD)
I've been a McCain fan for years. I fell in love with his music during "Misguided Roses" Cd release. Edwins insite into life, love goes well beyond his years. His music and lyrics touch my heart and make me laugh. It's the kind of Cd you need to crank up and go cruising in the convertable....
The soon to be hit single "I Want it All" was a Classic the day it was recorded. Written for all of us who want all that life has to offer, and more.

Okay. I admit I am a huge Edwin Mccain fan. However, having said that, fans expect that sooner or later the music is going to fade. I usually find that artists I favor have one or two bad cd's in which I wish I'd never spent my money! However, I'm happy to say that I've yet to find ONE bad cd by Edwin Mccain. I'm so happy that he included "sorry to a friend" on this cd as it hs quickly become one of my favorite Mccain songs. I've seen him live 8 times and he just gets better each time. This cd only further proves that Mr. Mccain has staying power! You won't be wasting your money!
