5.0 out of 5 stars Fun
The songs on here are a mix of classical "Aussi" songs such as Waltzin Madilta to the more traditional beer drinking songs.

They are easy to sing along with because none of them are fuzzy or too fast. It is a great introduction to Austrailin music. There is the 'lingo' in the songs and some of the typical 'Australian' type instruments that you might think of...

2.0 out of 5 stars Depends on what you want it for
We wanted some Aussie style songs to play at a BBQ. Almost all of the songs are more serious than I wanted for the party, but the few fun lighthearted songs were nice. We used only 5 or so of the 40 songs on this CD. I would not purchase this CD for that kind of party again, but it does have some very nice songs.

Try a John Williamson album for more kid...

Overall this is a great fun CD.

I recently returned from Australia and was anxious to remember some of the funny and poignant songs I heard during my stay. This album has them all - from "Pub with No Beer" to "And the Band Played Waltzin' Matilda." The versions are traditional, and easy to sing along with. Be sure to get this CD to play at your next "Aussie Bar-B-Q."

This had some excellent songs. A good mix from pub, to patriotic and humor. Hear the lingo, hear the classics.

I am so glade I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Australia, September 20, 2009

As an Aussie (now living in America) this Album is for those who want to know the true Australian spirit and humour and vitality. These are the songs of the stories we all grow up with there. They sing of the first settlers, Stagecoach Rides, Sheep Shearing, Legends such as The Man From Snowy River, Aussie Soldiers, and Aussie flaws as well. The explanation of the song..."Waltzing Mathilda"...is great for Americans who mostly don't know what the terminology means. The various artists on this double album are diverse and that makes it even more special. It's good to hear our National Anthem "Advance Australia Fair"...since no longer do we sing "God Save The Queen". Every time I give it to friends here they get a new appreciation of my heritage, and my Aussie friends love it as well. There is the gorgeous, glitzy, glam, world-class side of Australia...if you've been to Sydney recently you know...but this is about the other side...the "down home" side of the people...a rugged and humble and fun bunch who don't take themselves too seriously...but work hard and take life with all it's challenges very seriously. These songs make me proud what a great country Australia is!

1.0 out of 5 stars not all that great, September 3, 2008
This review is from: Australia: Our Land Our Music (Audio CD)
having just come back from the down-under, I was excited to find a collection of native music here in the US because CDs cost about twice as much down there. This has some nice songs on it, but was very sporadic and the performances mostly weak. I was dissapointed.
