Book Description

July 21, 1994
This new edition of Australian Vegetation reviews the vegetation of the continent as a whole. In the introductory section, chapters on phytogeography, vegetation history, and alien plants set the scene for further sections covering all the major vegetation types. The plant life of extreme Australian habitats is also discussed, and the book closes with a chapter on the conservation of Australian vegetation. The second edition includes a new chapter on coastal vegetation and authors have taken the opportunity to update research on other vegetation types and their conservation status.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"...a most welcome update..." Taxon 43

"More of a reference than a general work, it is adroitly edited with almost all chapters written in a smooth, flowing readable style....well-crafted volume. Highly recommended." Choice

"R.H. Groves' new edition of the Australian Vegetation is the tonic for us all. This superb compendium gives the basic conditions, species, and ecological factors that discriminate the many formations in the continent....give[s] the botanist an enormous satisfaction of being able to make sense, in ecological and evolutionary ways, of a flora that at first glance seems so alien." Steven N. Handel, Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club
