Buggy Implementation,
This review is from: Autel MaxiDiag JP701 Diagnostic Scan Tool (Automotive)
I already have Autel GS400 and wanted to upgrade with an unit with live data and ability to diagnosis ABS/AT/Airbag etc. Unfortunately, JP701 does not seem to handle vanilla OBD-II that well. The freeze frame data from 1999 Camry has half the parameters with wrong data! I compared GS400 vs JP701 and JP701 gave bogus data for coolant temperature, MAP, vehicle speed, intake air temperature. It also has couple of impossible parameters such as fuel trim data for BANK 3!! The unit also has some inexplicable delays e.g. trying to review freeze frame data, it has lag of 5 seconds. It looks like this product was pushed out the door without much of testing. I will be returning this product as soon as I get an RMA from Amazon.
I wish I could keep this as the features on this unit are great. You can connect it to PC. Here is the freeze frame data from JP701 ... [ EOBD ] Record1 -> Freeze Frame DTCFRZF P0420 FUELSYS1 CL FUELSYS2 -- LOAD_PCT(%) 74.9 ECT(°F) 28 SHRTFT1(%) 2.3 SHRTFT3(%) -100.0 LONGFT1(%) 11.7 LONGFT3(%) -100.0 MAP(psi) 10.9 RPM(rpm) 1710 VSS(mph) 35000 IAT(°F) 0 The GS400 gave me ... COOLANT 183 F MAP 22.1 INCH HG VEH SPD 21 MPH IAT 86 F As you can see GS400 gave the correct values whereas JP701 gave garbage.

Autel Scanner JP701,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Autel MaxiDiag JP701 Diagnostic Scan Tool (Automotive)
The scanned does its job for a good price. I was disappointed that the adapters for the Honda, Mitsubishi and maybe others didnt come with it. I used it on a Nissan Sentra and it worked well. It is easy to use also and comes with the neat carrying case. Again the problem for me now is to somehow source the adapters to convert to 16pin connector to work with other vehicles.

Not Honda Friendly,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Autel MaxiDiag JP701 Diagnostic Scan Tool (Automotive)
I am a certified Honda Technician and I purchased this scan tool to read and clear (srs) airbag codes. I was hoping to find a quick solution instead of taking the time to go through the hassle of setting up our HDS scan tool which requires imputing the vehicle information like vin#, mileage, etc before the tool can be used. this product is advertised to cover honda vehicles from 1994-2008 on their website. and when i received the product printed on the box it says it only covers hondas from 1996-2006. so i tested the scan tool on a 2003 honda accord with an (srs) airbag code light on. plugged in the jp701 and it read that the car was fault free under srs category. so basically if it cant even scan a car in its advertised coverage this tool is worthless. for those who intend to use this for Honda diagnostics stay away.

This scanner would not communicate or connect with any car in my driveway. LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS! DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK! Tech support is available if you feel like paying the international fees for calling CHINA. No updates or tech support available.

I have used it several times now for general scanning of codes and it is very easy to use. I have yet to sit down and analyze the information it collects in order to determine a solution... just have not had the time yet.It does work with my 2006 Highlander and my 2004 Nissan 350Z for engine, ABS and airbags.

dont own, have question,
This review is from: Autel MaxiDiag JP701 Diagnostic Scan Tool (Automotive)
Why is everybody talking about "adapters" for this product. Is not every OBD2 connector on every vehicle the same? This makes no sense at all, and i would like to know before buying it. thanks

Good OBD II Code Reader,
By calonzo (Connecticut) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Autel MaxiDiag JP701 Diagnostic Scan Tool (Automotive)
I was able to read, store and print the codes from two different vehicles, a 2001 Mazda Tribute and a 2003 VW Passat (even though VW is not listed as a supported vehicle). It even read the transmission codes. It can theoretically read codes from any OBD II compliant vehicle with the standard 16-pin connector. I think Nissans and Mercedes have a different connector that does not come with this reader.I called the North American distributor and asked if there were any software updates for this, but the model is discontinued because there were some software issues. I didn't try the Live Data features, so maybe the issues lie in that part of the reader. But if you want to read engine, transmission and ABS, this should work fine. It is very sturdy. It has a solid case and long enough cables. I was able to install the software and print the saved codes from my computer. It cleared the codes from the vehicle also. You may want to look at Autotel's newer models if you want the advanced features, but if you get a good deal for this one, go for it.

I was not sure if this was a good tester or not seeing it was from China. The unit exceeded my expectations and was just as good as other higher cost units I own. I like that it not only gives you the code, but also gives you possible solutions to the problem right on the screen.
