5.0 out of 5 stars Zen and the Art of Professional Coaching
Ms. Craddock does a brilliant job of taking us through the often painful process of finding ourselves and then bringing the best of ourselves to the workplace. 1.0 out of 5 stars More of the same
Over-written and far from original, this book promises more than it delivers. While the journey of self-discovery is hard work, reading a book should not be. Perhaps, for professionals who define themselves and their "authenticity" by title, position and acceptance in a workplace, this might be a helpful read. However, for true and lasting help in defining one's self,...

Ms. Craddock does a brilliant job of taking us through the often painful process of finding ourselves and then bringing the best of ourselves to the workplace. The Authentic Career is about finding and living the authentic self. It brings us back to the things we might have once been told by a well-meaning friend or a self-help lecture; it makes real and fleshes out exactly what we need to do to work through core issues of our identity and find our "true bliss" in the workplace.
What better person than Ms. Craddock to show us the way. She went from making million dollar business deals to working with mental patients to try to find her bliss and to bring the fruits of her labors to us, in a very readable,
usable form. I have benefitted greatly from reading this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The path well taken., March 4, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Authentic Career: Following the Path of Self-Discovery to Professional Fulfillment (Paperback)
Self Discovery hasn't had a more sane or sensible voice.
One is so easily and kindly guided through the four step
program that it is hard to consider any other method for
effecting such profound insights into one's personal and
professional life. The exercises remarkably build structure
and confidence and give evidence to the underlying feeling
one gets throughout the book that the author thoroughly
understands the process of self-realization. A benchmark book.

This review is from: The Authentic Career: Following the Path of Self-Discovery to Professional Fulfillment (Paperback)
This book is simply incredible! I have read many self-help books over the years, and having been in the business world for all of those years, I have never seen both areas (self-help and career) integrated so well in one place. In "The Authentic Career" I was able to unlock how my career goals and personal needs could be aligned and fulfilled with the appropriate insights into my life. This book can really help individuals create the space to achieve this. Ms. Craddock's own experiences and using real examples of workplace issues were extremely helpful and enlightening. I could approach my job and career in a completely different light after reading and utilizing this book. The exercises were truly eye opening and I finally have found a process that makes sense for re-energizing and strategizing my career after many years. A great read for anyone who wants to find a new way to grow in their career and personal lives. Very helpful and inspirational!

The book is four-stage self-inquiry process by Executive Coach Maggie Craddock. Ms. Craddock's exercises comprise mind, body, and spirit in interactive exercises and follow-up action items. 5.0 out of 5 stars A life changing and truly valuable book, March 4, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Authentic Career: Following the Path of Self-Discovery to Professional Fulfillment (Paperback)
I have read many self-help books in my career, but this one truly makes a difference. These are not the typical excercises you see in this type of book - you can tell from the examples and the way the author walks through the process with readers that these have been done by many people and have worked. The author also addresses the many "turf wars" in self-help, and while graciously acknowledging the contribution of thinkers from psychology to change management presents a clear system that is ground breakingly effective. If you really want to change your career and your life, buy this book now.

4.0 out of 5 stars A 4-Stage Process that really works, February 23, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Authentic Career: Following the Path of Self-Discovery to Professional Fulfillment (Paperback)
Apparently this book is getting a lot of attention in the coaching world. My coach recommended I read it and that we incorporate some of the steps into our ongoing process. I am finding it be an enthralling read. My biggest problem has been slowing down enough to absorb her questions and apply them to my situation. I am going back through it for the second time to focus on the exercises. I suspect this is a book I will return to again and again, to keep myself "authentic".

This is a good buy for those who want to get out of their current personal or professional rut. Cuts quickly to the heart of what is holding us back. An excellent, thought-provoking book for coaches who are looking for a way to enhance their own process.

4.0 out of 5 stars Takes work, but it's worth it, February 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Authentic Career: Following the Path of Self-Discovery to Professional Fulfillment (Paperback)
I get tired of self-help books with endless checklists and worksheets. This book has a series of exercises that take a lot of thought, but the author seems like a good friend, talking you through it and sharing the results.

Reading her own experiences building a career, then deciding to transition to a whole new field, was an inspiration. The client stories she uses to illustrate the steps of the process were interesting and helpful as well.

I have had a coach and wished that there had been a more defined process for getting from "here" to "there". I get the feeling Maggie Craddock asks the right questions and helps her clients find their own answers, without a lot of wasted floundering around. I found this book a valuable tool for my own personal and professional search. A good investment.
