Authentic DirecTV Tivo Series 2 Replacement Remote

It looks, feels, and works just like the standard black TiVo remote, with the following minor differences:

1) The TV Power and TV Input buttons are moved to new buttons just above the number pad.
2) Where the standard remote has "TV Power", this one has a "Ratio" button (which performs the exact same function as "Aspect" or "Window" on other TiVo remotes).
3) Where the standard remote has "TV Input", this one has an "Exit" button.
4) Where the standard remote has "Aspect", this one has a "List" button, which takes you directly to the Now Playing List
5) The TiVo button is a slightly different shape and is the DirecTV logo, not the TiVo logo.
6) With no apparent functional difference, the DVR 1/2 switch is labeled Sat/TV.
7) There's a DirecTV logo just below the number pad.

Oh, and at the time of this review, you can buy two with Amazon fulfillment for less than the price of a single standard TiVo remote.

The title says it all!The remote is the same unit that came with my RCA TIVO satellite receiver/recorder. The only problem I encountered was that I no longer had any idea how to program it for use with our SONY TV set. The remote was shipped bare.

It would have been really useful to have had either paper-based instructions included or at least information on where to obtain the necessary programming information. An internet search revealed no such information either! I finally had to resort to contacting my satellite carrier, DirTV.

This was a much less expensive alternative to a tivo brand remote. Took it out of the package and it worked instantly, no set up was required. It didn't come with directions or any paperwork, but we didn't need it.

I bought this because the down arrow on my original TIVO remote stopped working. At first glance, this was a perfect substitute even though it says Direct TV on it. As I went to use it, I found the power button is in a different place, but otherwise everything else seems the same.

There were no instructions with it when it came, but for under $10 that was a minor inconvenience. I didn't remember how I originally set up the TIVO remote, but I went online to find help on programming the remote which eventually led me to the TIVO site. Once I found out how to program the remote, everything else fell into place.

It works fine and so far, I'm very pleased with my purchase as buying a remote from TIVO would have been much more expensive.

My TiVo remote finally gave out after years of hard use so I ordered what I thought was the perfect replacement. It turned out I'd ordered a DirectTV remote by mistake but ya know what? It works great as a plain TiVo remote. All the buttons function as I need (except the "Ratio" one) and it took a bit to get used to the TV Power button being half-way down. Otherwise, flawless!

Amazing that it was built for a different purpose but works just the way I would like. Good job, designers!

Well, OK, yes it is a Tivo remote, but one specifically designed to work with early combo DirecTV/Tivo boxes. Hence the DirecTV logos all over it, and the slightly different arrangement of buttons. It is identical to the OEM remotes sent out with those machines. Presumably it works fine with stand-alone Tivo boxes and combo boxes made by other manufacturers.

As regards those who note that it comes with no instructions, the instructions are available through the on-screen DirecTV or Tivo menus (in DirecTV: DirecTV button, Messages & Setup, Settings, Remote Control). They can also be found in the manuals for the appropriate DirecTV boxes(the R10, for example) which can be found on DirecTV's website. The programming codes are on-screen only, however.

This remote works perfectly with my series 2 TiVo. I put in the batteries and it immediately controlled my TiVo. Once I programmed it using the on-screen instructions I was able to turn on and off my TV, control the volume and mute the TV. The only difference between this remote and the original is the placement of the button to turn the TV on and off. I would buy another if one of my other TiVo remotes breaks.

This remote replaced out TiVo Series 2 remote. All of the functions and features of the old remote are present and work, however, some of the buttons are in different places (ex. TV power). All of the buttons are clearly labeled, so it is just a matter of locating them! It also works with our new TiVo Premiere box - you just need to reprogram the TV.

This worked perfectly for an old Tivo I had that was using standard rabbit ears antenna with a converter box. Also the cost was less than half what I would have paid if I'd ordered directly from Tivo, and it was eligible for free shipping.

After searching for a replacement remote for my original Philips Tivo, I came across only a few merchants who sold them (older remote). Most wanted upwards of $30 for a remote which I paid far less here on Amazon. I highly recommend this seller. The remote came looking brand new in a bag. Super value.
