More About the Author

Significant Achievements of Lauren Leslie, Ph.D.
For 14 years while on the faculty at Marquette University I directed a Literacy Center. The goal of the Center was to improve literacy instruction in urban schools. We enrolled children who had not learned to read by the beginning of 2nd or 3rd grade. University undergraduates in elementary education were the tutors and it was my responsibility to teach and supervised the tutors. This required assisting the prospective teachers how to plan instruction based on assessment results. This project was the foundation of the article by Leslie & Allen cited below.

This review is from: Authentic Literacy Assessment: An Ecological Approach (Paperback)
I teach students with learning disabilities in a continuation high school in a very rough area... attendance is a problem, therefore consistent assessments are not possible. With the Ecological approach and the portfolio method a teacher can track progress of students... it is an interesting idea that I plan to incorporate in my practice.
