Customer Reviews

I gifted my best friend this for her bornday and she LOVES IT!!!

The only problem is, the quill pen does not work because the nibs, with the holes in them, do not fit at all, into the nib holder.

I have this same set of pens. The nicest part of the set is that you get a good variety of nibs and pens to start out with.

First, is the wooden dip pen c.19th Century. It comes with seven brass nibs that you can really try out and see what fits your style best.

Then there is the feather quill c.18th Century and before. It comes will a brass nib thing but I can seem to do much with it. It slides off and you can use the quill just like the dip pen. Also feel free to shave off some of the feather if it gets in your way.

It comes with about 3/4 of an ounce of ink. Mine is a reddish brown color.

The box is nice and a great way to store and display you pens. I even used it to keep a pen knife, extra ink and nibs. Also the price is very reasonable. Bought separately it would cost much more.

When this arrived, it came in a very beautiful display case. It comes with a small jar of ink (beware, the ink is not red, it is a dark-red, which I personally prefer.), six brass nibs, the feather-quill pen, and the dip pen/calligraphy pen. First off, NONE of the brass nibs fit in the feather-quill pen, they must be pinched with pliers in order to fit. The feather pen is quite fragile, as expected. The calligraphy dip pen is very nice however. It is made out of wood, and painted black, although the one of the picture is white, and yours might come white. It also has a very fragile tip, which will snap if too much pressure is applied.

In the end, the feather-quill pen is completely useless, unless you really wanna spend all day trying to fix the nibs, in order to fit.

The bottle of ink is great.

The calligraphy dip pen is very nice though.

Folks, please do not rate this item without having tested it yourself. Why offer a review if you simply bought it and gave it away??! First and foremost, no instructions come with the set. No big deal, right? This is a big deal. First: NONE of the nibs fit the feather nib case. None. So, what do you do? The problem is that you need pliers to squeeze the nibs a bit in order to insert into the brass case. But be careful, if you overpress the nib, you might as well toss it. Second: Ask yourself why do some nibs have a small reservoir to hold the ink, while the others do not. Hmmm. Third: The nib of the carved pencil does not come out. So, you have all these "cool" nibs but can't use them. I am trying to reach the company to complain, but there isn't a person to drop questions to. Buyer be aware and don't simply buy this because it looks cool. Come on.

My granddaughter is into all things vintage. For her birthday she wanted a vintage pen set. We found it on Amazon. Her eyes lit up when she opened the gift. She immediately started using it. I also purchased an extra ink bottle. The one that came with the pens was very small. She loved the way it wrote. She uses it to embellish school assignments.

The purchase came in good time & the dip pen is fine, BUT the feather quill is in two pieces, and none do the nibs fit it. If you are just going for looks it would be alright but other than that....sorry, It's a waste of money.

I just want to say that I've been ordering from Amazon for over 10 years now & this is the 1st time I've felt compelled to write a review.
I had no problems with the delivery time per se. Firstly, I bought this as a gift for a friend but the plastic part of the cover was dented when I received the package even though it was in a padded envelope. For the sake of argument it could have been the courier. Upon opening the display lid I found what looked to be like a white mould growing on the black backing on which the pen rested and further more the color of the pen was not light brown as shown in the picture. It rather looked like that may have been the original color but someone tried to paint it over in black and missed a lot of spots in the process. So the black wooden pen is resting on a black background.
The worst part is the feather - the feather looks dull, like a light fungus started growing. It seems organic and not plastic at least to add to the authentic look, but I had to wipe the thing off. Honestly, I'm from a country area and I could pluck a more healthy looking tail feather of a chicken in my yard. I expected a softer look to the feather. It seems like a plain pigeon feather, either way it's very dark. So the set is mostly black on black. I'm torn whether to even test the nibs as it's supposed to be a gift but I may have to toss it as the smell of the pakage is really old. The nibs seem to fit but the metal piece which covers the feather tip seems like an awkward fit to it.
Trying to replace this might cost too much in shipping and I'm not in the mood to do battle to get back a few bucks. Either way I think I got the last one as the product is no longer available. Now I have to spend more time hunting for a gift. This was a waste of time and money.

It really isn't too bad of a set, it is more of a neat idea than anything practical if you wish to use it. you have to bend the nibs with pliers in order for them to fit into the tip that goes onto the quill and that piece doesn't even hold the quill in that well. If it had better fitting pieces I would rate 5 stars, though it works (not very well) and the nibs are decent quality it gets 3 stars.
