About the Author

Originally more than 5 years ago now, I was highly skeptical of this kind of thing. To be honest, I thought it was wacky but due to my prior martial arts background I simply had to know for myself what if anything this Chi stuff was truly about. So I made a dedicated decision to do Qigong everyday for a full year to prove or disprove the existence of the so-called Chi or life force energy to myself. I practiced consistently each and every day and corresponded regularly with my first instructor, Sifu Robin Jones to review my training. Even though I was feeling healthier and more alive, I didn't have any physical experience that proved Chi was something real. I continued and pressed on even though my mind kept nagging me saying: This is stupid, you are wasting your time. However after 7-months of persistent practice, something magical happened. I could feel the energy both inside and outside my body. My hands felt like powerful magnets repelling each other and I had the internal sensation of electrical currents flowing throughout my entire body. Little did I know how much Qigong was going to change my life for the better. I have lost 55 lbs, dramatically improved my physical, emotional and mental health, as well as gaining healing ability by helping my friends and family members recover from or heal from their own medical issues. This has been by far the greatest discovery of my life! My only wish now is to share this with anyone who is willing to listen. I became a Chi fanatic and as a result, I have over 7,000+ hours of internal energetic training experience from a variety of systems Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tibetan and Indian. This energy is not something that you imagine, it is something that you can actually feel and share with others. Anyone can do this! Sifu Dan Freeman

3.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money to most, October 29, 2008
This review is from: Authentic Teachings Of Shaolin Qigong: A Complete Home Study Course (Paperback)
My first impression from browsing this book on Amazon was "wow an authentic book on Shaolin QiGong!" Well when I got it, I was disappointed in the quality of printing, it looks like it was printed in someones home office. When I read through it I quickly realized that this is not the authentic shaolin system that Bodiharma and his successors developed. As a chi kung instructor I did find some interesting exercises in it, and some in depth information on the 5 element theory but I don't think it is worth the 39.99$ to the regular chi kung practitioner. Someone should definitely consider reprinting it professionally and lowering the price. I also didn't like how sifu freeman dumbs down the xi sui jing (brain/marrow washing qigong) he explains it as acquiring saliva from putting your tounge to the roof of your mouth and imagining you are a Russian doll. The real xi sui jing takes years to master and only successful practitioners can achieve all of the results after training the yi jin jing (muscle/tendon changing qigong) properly. His version may work after decades of practice but not nearly as efficiently as other techniques.

This book is packed with rare information! Clearly written, easy to read and understand, this book is a Qigong course in a book. Great to have as a resource. If I was buying one book on Qigong this would be the book!

I have the Shaolin manual in Chinese.

Now translated by Sifu Dan Freeman.
Some movements instructions are different from what I have.
On the 12th exercise, the number of repetition required is not correct.
Should be more.

There are no explanations of all 12 Shaolin exercises.
Just the instructions to practice.
I guess, for today's students, that is enough.
There is a second half of Shaolin exercises not included.
But this should be enough.

I never have the patience to practice every day.
Therefore, you can say I never got the result promised.

About the term Sifu.
A true Sifu is someone who can heal as well as someone who can fight.
Most sifu's today are an embarassment.
If you get hurt, you are sent to the hospital.
That's not how things were. A good Sifu will take care of your wounds.
