This is another great book by James Bennett, and covers many interesting facets of lithics and archaeology as well as authentication. Many people will shy away from this book thinking it only concerns authentication, which is not correct...it also has much good previously unpublished information on how lithics use patterns work, etc. I believe this book should be used as a supplement to James previously published softcover book which has MUCH more information on detecting fakes/fabrications in native american lithics. The softbound book previously published has many more photos, and covers much that this book does not. Therefore my suggestion is to get this book as a supplement to the first softbound book, do not think this book includes all from the other as it does not. However this book is well worth the money and is well done, highly recommened book, but the man who appears to have donned the mantle of the respected but now deceased authenticator Greg Perino.

One the best books on I have ever read on the subject of fake indian artifact. Anyone
engaged in buying indian artifacts should not only read this book but should keep it
at hand for reference. It is by far the best of Jim Bennets books.

This is the book all of the experts use. The book is best used with a Magnifying glass. Buy this one!

I found this book not only enjoyable to go through, but educational. It gives details from the easy to see to the deeper more detailed information to equip you in a better understanding authentic artifacts. With so many fakes out there it's a book every collector should have.

I bought this book for my son who is an avid artifact hunter. He was very impressed with this book and the detail in it.

Very informative, many examples that are easy for a novice to follow. Good hints and many excellent color photos to help you gain solid knowledge of the subject. The book is focused on mostly points and not some of the other items that my students bring me to look at.

If you are looking for a good book for points, this is the one for you. If you are dealing with other items, look for another book.

This is a must have book for anyone who has ever thought of buying ancient Indian artifacts. This is not the book for an expert. It is a book for beginners and amateurs who have the interest but don't feel confident in their ability to choose a "real" artifact. It touches on practically every aspect of identifying flint tools. I would think that for any individual or institution(libraries,etc.)that has reference books this should be a welcome and much used addition.

I bought this as a gift and it was a big hit. You can never be too informed. This book is packed with helpful tips. You will enjoy and maybe even discover you have a treasure on your hands!

Any collection strong in Native American history, studies or early artifacts will welcome AUTHENTICATING ANCIENT INDIAN ARTIFACTS: HOW TO RECOGNIZE REPRODUCTION AND ALTERED ARTIFACTS. Color photos of artifacts accompany clear directions on the entire authentication and identification process, making for a fine choice for college-level archaeology collections as well.

As the title of this review states this should be a book any serious collector should have for reference. The picture examples are worth the cost of the book alone. The information included along with the examples is just what I was looking for in a book about collecting Native American artifacts.
The book is also very well written so that a person with very little knowledge could pick it up and understand what was being explained.
