All the 5 star posts about this book are surely contrived,
This review is from: Author & Get Rich: How to Write a Money-Making Book in Only 12 Hours! (Paperback)
How funny...I find this book about "authoring" to be a perfect example of what NOT to do. Most of the links referenced in this book do not work (they are obsolete or never existed). His step-by-step is not step-by-step. There is a checklist, which is good, but if you are looking for an easy way to follow this checklist and know what to do, well, good luck...his descriptions are all over the place and not in order, or perhpas are so laden with rhetoric, it is hard to keep track. Also, the first 15 pages or so are advertising and promoting other products, even before you know if the book shows the author knows anything!!!
Granted, I do have to say that there is good material in here...unfortunately it is mixed with a lot of useless information. So should you buy this book? I say yes, but be prepared to skip the first 15 pages until after you finish the rest of the book, and be prepared to spend a lot of time reorganizing the information by writing notes so you can see the final picture.

Author an e-book, publish, and repurpose for big $$$$!!!,
By The Book Bomber (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Author & Get Rich: How to Write a Money-Making Book in Only 12 Hours! (Paperback)
To a great extent, some pretty basic stuff here. If you don't write, never have written, don't know how to generate ideas, have writer's block or any of the above, this is the book for you. But there's more . . .
A&GR has some good points but, after all, it is just a book, or as the marketing world describes it (also the author, Glen Dietzel) a brochure or business card (no one gets rich writing books). It is Dietzel's business card--first in the line of products that works as a foundation for re-purposing and profit building. He tells you that your book will build a business (as Dietzel has) and the repurposed or reworked material in the book will be made into CD's, DVD's, work books, classes, seminars, and so on. That's the other part of the book or beyond the book. But let's get back to the book, shall we? (Did I say book enough here? No? OK. Book. Book. Book. ;=) ) Let's take a look at the marketing of the book to get an idea as to how successful aspects of marketing work and how some of the contemporary ideas expressed by Dietzel and others like Dan Kennedy (super marketing guru) and Alex Mandossian (top freelance direct marketer [infomercials: QVC, HSN), teleseminar, virtual book tour, and podcast guru) play out. If you've read a lot, you'll see Kennedy's, Mandosian's and the hands of others (Mark Victor Hansen, Napoleon Hill, et. al) all over this book. To promote, it is best to get others to say good stuff about you than you. A Dan Kennedy supported approach. So Dietzel has done this in droves: over 20 pages of blurbs open the book! Dan Kennedy has said the more the merrier. Don't be afraid of too many supportive blurbs. However, on one of his teleseminars on web page testing, it was discovered that a sales page without blurbs did better than the same sales page with. Go figure. Maybe the age of "If you've got big-name supporters, I'll buy" is coming to a close. I know I, like many, now ignore this often overused ploy. Nevertheless, onto the book . . . Dietzel begins by defining what an Entrepreneurial Author is to get your head into the game with clear definitions, what a marketing funnel is (yeah, you're a writer but to be successful with your book ya gotta know how to market, just ask Robert Kiyosaki--was a big advertiser in RTIR [Radio Television Interview Report)], and Dietzel promotes, promotes, promotes his stuff. As any good marketer should. Lots of it found free on the Internet, leading up to his $5000 course, which you need in order to become successful at marketing your book, of course. He's got a free get-your-head-right CD set, attached to a free 3 month trial to weekly "life-enhancing lessons" after which you'll pay $19 / month. But you can cancel any time. But this IS required reading / studying for success CAN'T HAPPEN if you don't have enough of you working right, meaning, that there's a lot of bad habits, thinking that needs to be nipped in the bud to take it to the next level. Very important! However, I think Dietzel, like Tony Robbins and other motivators, don't dedicate enough time to this highly important issue. For example, Tony Robbins mentions how only about 10% of those who buy his tapes listen to them. But he doesn't even say how many make them a life habit? Maybe 1% of the 10% who listen all the way through. So few are not doing because of deeper issues mere motivational or NLP techniques won't improve upon. But that's another topic. Let's look at more of A&GR . . . Dietzel does tell you how to generate ideas, free up time from you schedule to write, the importance of niche marketing, how to pick your niche--a good niche, how to prepare your mind and recognize your expertise, how to move from your comfort zone to a mindset of success, the authors mindset, creating a knowledge-based information business, goal setting and accomplishing, and so on. To summarize, Dietzel does a good job of presenting some of the necessary information one needs to achieve the proper mindset to write and obtain success, what an info. business entails, some contemporary marketing issues--how to do so through the power of the Internet, and so on. But this has all been covered before by other gurus. And if you're motivated, know of the contemporary business environment, know how to write, then why buy this book. Ahhhhh, here's where it gets interesting. Dietzel's biggest advantage is his connections ("how to gain instant access to a NY publisher) and experience. He's been there so you, the neophyte promoter of your e-book, don't have to waste time re-inventing the wheel. And THIS is why you should buy the book (get the free stuff if you like) and sign up for his class. Of course, there's the discounted version ($400) but as Dietzel tells you, best not to waste your time with it because you need to speak to us to get things right the first time. Don't waste your time or money get the high ticket item. Good marketing, eh? Right. Overall, it's pretty good. But if you're business savy, know how to write (or at least can generate ideas in a consistent and disciplined manor--don't need hand holding), get motivated, most of the basics Dietzel talks about, then it's best just to go to awakentheauthorwithin.com and sign up for an authoring program. And you may want to apply for a scholarship and get $2500 off Dietzel's Basic Authoring for Business Profit class. Good Authoring!!!

Glenn made my new life happen,
By Ken Jensen "Author of It Takes Guts To Be Me:... (Kingston, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Author & Get Rich: How to Write a Money-Making Book in Only 12 Hours! (Paperback)
My name is Ken Jensen, author of the book "It Takes Guts To Be Me: How An Ex-Marine Beat Bipolar Disorder". You can find it here: www.ittakesgutstobeme.com.
The only reason I can even make the prior statement is thanks to Glenn and his team. His system works and a book was dug out of my head that I did not even realize was there. After 8 years of trying to find the right business goal to pursue, I am home. Take it from one who has been burned repeatedly and chosen the wrong business model to follow more than once - Glenn's system is true, honest, and doable by anyone. Let him help you open a new chapter in your life just as he helped me.

Glenn Dietzel, Author and Grow Rich (Morgan James, 2008)
I figured I knew what I was getting with Glenn Dietzel's Author and Grow Rich, but I didn't expect it to be quite as blatant as it is. Every few pages, you're interrupted with directions to get to one of Dietzel's websites hawking the Entrepreneurial Author program or some sort of spiritual-fulfillment thing. There are also veiled references to anyone buying the Entrepreneurial Author program being put in touch with "a New York Publisher". Exactly which publisher this is is never revealed, though the examples Dietzel mentions were all published by Morgan James, the publisher of this book. My guess is that many others have gone through this and been routed to another publisher (remember that a few vanities are headquartered in New York, though looking through Morgan James' backlist, I'm even wondering about them; some of those covers just scream "vanity press"). In any case, Dietzel's refusal to mention the publisher's name, the constant hawking of other products (and the "free bonus materials worth" some ludicrous amount of money no one in their right mind would actually pay) should be raising huge red flags in your vision within five pages of you starting to read this book. If there's actually any useful information here you can't get from the thousands of better writing manuals on the planet, I couldn't find it before flinging this out the window in disgust. I've read a lot of useless books on writing, but none that have tried to sell me so many things that had nothing to do with writing in the process. An insult to the intelligence of any would-be writer. (zero)

A supersales approach, but with many good ideas,
By Barry Parker "Author of You Should Write a Bo... (Pocatello, Idaho, USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Author & Get Rich: How to Write a Money-Making Book in Only 12 Hours! (Paperback)
I bought this book on a whim and wasn't sure what to expect. I'm an author of 22 books and I sure haven't grown rich. As I began reading the book I soon became convinced that the author was a super salesman, and was promising much more than he could deliver. In particular, I was skeptical of his "write a book in 12 hours" scheme. Sure, anyone can write a book in 12 hours, but I'm not sure how publishable it would be. As I looked into the book in more detail, however, I began to see that it contained a lot of useful information. I'm not sure most of the people reading it are going to get rich quickly, but there are many good ideas in the book. For the most part they are presented in flamboyant step 1, step 2 ... fashion, with lots of white space around each point. Some of them, in fact, begin with "Secrets Ways to ...." Despite several drawbacks, the book is a good addition to any writers library. Each time I've gone through it, I've found something useful.

This review is from: Author & Get Rich: How to Write a Money-Making Book in Only 12 Hours! (Paperback)
THis is one of the best books I've read. I couldn't put it down...I rea through it very quickly. The format is so user friendly and before you know it - you're half way through the book! If you're seriously interested in authoring a book and haven't started writing yet...this book is incredibly useful and worth every penny -the resources in it are worth 100x the price of the book. The author provides you with the top 100 headlines, power words, niche markets and how to find a hungry market all the way to effective writing techniques. I'm so glad I ordered it.
Sincerely, Nada Adams [...]

It never occurred to me that a person could do this through authoring, plus generate business profits! The first time I heard of Glenn Dietzel was in a teleseminar and I was so inspired that he was teaching people to do this. The thought of writing a book really excited me, while at the same time, I was scared! I was encouraged while listening to Glenn when he said that these are the two criteria in achieving the goal of writing a book. Author and Grow Rich will inspire and motivate you to awaken the author within.

The book was a promotion of online content the author was trying to sell.
It was 99% hype. Save your money & don't buy this book. This book was all about cheap sales of the lowest kind

This book is really an explanation of WHY to write your book more than a HOW. The why is in order to promote yourself and your business. I feel that this topic is handled much better by Steve Manning in his "How to Write a Book in 14 Days".

If you're an author or writer who has yet to publish a book, this is a book you should get and read on two levels and with two objectives in mind. From the first level, the book offers basic - but relevant advice - you can use to get down to the business of writing your book. (However, it's not always the easiest read. There are times the explanations are a little convoluted and difficult to understand - something I chalked up to Mr. Dietzel's background as a vice principal... However, as I said, the ideas and information he provides in the book will help you to write your book - but as with any "how to" product, sift through the information, take what works for you, and discard the rest. Writing a book is a very personal thing - and not every method works for every author. The biggest "secret to success" is to figure out what works for you... And do that. Now the reason I said to read the book on two levels is because after you've taken the "how to write your book" info out of it, I recommend that you read the book again. This time, look at it as a marketing guide. Notice all the different ways Mr. Dietzel promotes his different products and services. Look at all the testimonials - 20 pages of them... look at how he's created his own "system" and named those systems - so they become completely his... Mr. Dietzel is indeed a master of marketing, and every writer and author can learn just as much from what he does and how he does it - as they can from trying the practical "how to write" information. In my opinion, if you're serious about writing your own book, getting it published and then marketing it effectively, this is a "must have" book for your bookshelf. |
