4.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading but avoid the given cure at the end, March 17, 2005
This review is from: Authority Abusers (Paperback)
This is a thoughtful book which is worth reading. I do have
one point of disagreement which I think is important. Despite
a good stand against abusive authoritarian leadership in church
life, the author still maintains at the end of his book, that
submitting to human leadership in the church is the only answer
to heal abusive experiences with church leaders. It's kind of
like recommending the sickness for the cure. I'm sure it's
well intended, but submitting to human leadership is not a
Biblical cure and is actually the crux of the false teaching which is allowing and spreading abuse as if it is Biblical.
It should be made clear that submission is ALWAYS voluntary and
that we submit to people ONLY insofar as they are following
Christ, not because they have some type of title. I was very
disappointed in the ending but the rest of the book is
worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Anyone Can Be Deceived, March 11, 2004

This review is from: Authority Abusers (Paperback)
If you have ever been in a church atmosphere where you feel as though things just do not seem to line up with the Word of God but for some reason you just can't seem to understand why you stay in that environment. . .my friend, I encourage you to get this book because it will help you begin a spiritual and emotional healing if you have been a victim of spiritual abuse.

By the grace of God I recently escaped a church that had an atmosphere that was cascading into a cult-like organization through its teachings where the pastor and his elect could do no wrong while everyone else were constantly wrongly being rebuked and rebuked and rebuked. I have bought 10 copies of this book so far for friends who are still caught up in the false teaching of a spiritual abuser. I thank God for George Bloomer who had the insight, wisdom, and courage to write this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Recognizing Abuse, August 12, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Authority Abusers (Paperback)
Bishop Bloomer has a gift for recognizing the motives and machinations authority abusers use. He has organized the book so it's easy to read, easy to recognize the abusers in your life and church, and easy to apply its principles. In our efforts to be Christlike and "turn the other cheek," we too often allow authority abusers free rein in our lives. This book should be required reading for every Christian!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloomer Sets Free the Spiritual Abused and the Spiritual Abuser, October 7, 2005
This review is from: Authority Abusers (Paperback)
Are you sure you are under Godly authority? Is your home Godly or does an authority abuser, possibly your pastor or church, govern it? Are you even sure if your giving - your tithes and your offerings - is ordained by God, or used abusively? Do you recognize pastoral parasites when you see them?

George Bloomer holds a Doctor of Religious Arts in Christian Psychology and exposes one of the least exposed abuses in our society: Spiritual Abuse. Expertly, Bloomer takes the reader inside the church, an assumed place of salvation, healing, freedom, and love, that has become a haven (not a heaven) to prey on the wounded and the weak.

AUTHORITY ABUSERS: Breaking Free from Spiritual Abuse is written with Godly wisdom. Bishop Bloomer shares practical insights that evidence spiritual implications. Incontrovertibly, "Godly authority is protective, loving, honest, and-above all-liberating," and "Jesus Himself never violated God's order of human authority." Anything else is abuse.

This exceptionally well-organized, easily read and understood 158-page book that includes 19 pages to review and discuss each chapter, with space provided for journaling, aids the reader who is under the intoxication of spiritual abuse to break free. Bloomer identifies abuse, the abusers, and means for restoration. He offers and supports with valid and appropriate scripture authority abuse and abusers, yet how to reconcile these spiritually dangerous offenders.

Every ministry would do itself well to read Bloomer's revelatory book and break free from any spiritual abuse.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

This is a great book to help reseach out spiritual abuse in churches and pin-point things that may be just "not right " feeling. He obviously understands and even gives insight into something that happened in his ministry when he left on a trip. Very candid and Honest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Authority Abusers Purchase, June 30, 2010

This review is from: Authority Abusers (Paperback)
This book did not disappoint. I purchased it because I suspected that I was experiencing abuse so I needed knowledge to confirm this and wisdom on how to deal with it. Bishop George Bloomer was very candid about his personal experiences which gave credence to the content of this book. It also touched on the Jezebel spirit which I found to be quite helpful. This book initiated my search to acquire information to assist me personally and professionally to deal with leaders who abuse there authority and encouraged me to ensure that I do not become abusive. It also stressed that we must stay in position becasue only God can break the power of an abuser.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!! Excellent!!!! Excellent!!!!, April 13, 2009
This review is from: Authority Abusers (Hardcover)
This is a very good book to read. It provides insight on authority abuse in a very basic format that anyone can understand. Some of Bishop Bloomer's books require you to read and re-read to gain a full understanding (because they are just that deep) but this one was written in such a way that I could easily grasp hold of the concepts.

4.0 out of 5 stars A timely much needed book, March 30, 2009
This review is from: Authority Abusers (Hardcover)
I want to buy this book as soon as I can. I think it is helpful to have a good definition of healthy Spiritual leadership.
Abusive people should be held accountable for the way they treat others but in some instances people think abusive or controlling behavior is normal. The more abuse is tolerated the less victims understand just how abnormal the abuse is. I realize we are all still a work in process, however is it asking too much that those that lead should lead by example?
