Editorial Reviews

After a dysfunctional group of unpublished writers with the motto all for one accept Hannah Rinaldi (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) into their fold, the last thing they expect is her overnight success - but that's exactly what they get. While her career takes off, her eccentric and envious colleagues (Chris Klein, Teri Polo, Dylan Walsh, Dennis Farina and Jonathan Bennett) struggle to find their own paths to publishing fame and fortune. Tensions rise, rivalries form, and hearts are broken. Rejection turns to desperation. Good thing they're only armed with pens...

I loved this movie. The characters were well-drawn, the group dynamic thoroughly believable. The movie features great writing - one character is a successful writer who doesn't know that Jane Austen is, in fact, dead. (one of my laugh-out-louds.) The acting was dead-on, especially Dennis Farina, Dylan Walsh, Teri Polo, and Kaley Cuoco . Really, this a GREAT film for anyone who enjoys either good writing or good movies!

“This group really is all for one and one for all.” Hannah Rinaldi (Cuoco) has just been accepted into a writer’s group. The group is full of aspiring writers who are all excellent…in their own minds. Each writer is trying to make their own path to stardom and being published. When Hannah gets a break the rest of the group becomes jealous and the real personalities are shown. I have to start by saying that I thought this was very funny and I laughed a lot, on the other hand though this is not for everyone. The movie is a “mock-umentary” and is very much like Best In Show or Mighty Wind. The humor is for a select group but if you are into this type of comedy you will love this movie. Each character is funny but Dennis Farina’s Tom Clancy type character really steals the movie and this is worth watching just for him. Overall, very very funny but again, for a select group of people. If you like the Christopher Guest improv movies like Best In Show you will like this. I laughed a lot. I give this a B+.

I watched this movie with the expectation of not liking it and ended up loving it. Clearly meant to be satirical, as an author I thought it was completely, absolutely, hilariously, and painfully true (you'll have to watch the movie to understand the barrage of adverbs). Long story short, it's something of a "mockumentary" about a dysfunctional writers group. Trouble arises when one member finds quick success. If you're a writer, you know somebody in this movie, you are somebody in this movie, or both. In my case both. For me, Dennis Farina (may he rest in peace) really nailed his character. I mean, his parts made me laugh out loud until tears flowed in a couple of places. I saw some complaints in other reviews but gee whiz people it's a parody. It's satire. If you don't get that, it's really not meant for you to watch. Skip it.

I consider this a Must Watch for all Authors/writers (and Artists too). But Authors/writers will really get the most out of the humor. Very funny.

I could tell this would be an enjoyable movie from the very start. Being a "wannabe" author, myself, only added to the pleasure of watching the great cast. There's nothing worse than rejection, but these guys always seem ready for more!

All the group professes to be anxious for one or more of them to experience a major writing success, but just wait until that finally happens - the others really can't take it (in a laugh-out loud sort of way).

A nice fuzzy ending to the film, but sad that this was to be Dennis Farina's last project - he was exceptional here!

The film is about a writing group, of which I have been in many, and I was hoping that the essence of this strange gathering of people who sit by themselves, in their heads all day, would translate to the big screen. The film is fantastic, a perfect display of writer support, love, then envy, insecurity, vanity and dysfunction.

This was an ideal portrayal of the heads and hearts of writers. If you are one, you will love every note as it is written with a strong hand of someone who understands their motivations.

Author's Anonymous follows a group of writers (and wannabe writers) as they meet weekly to support and critique each other's writing. They all get along each other until Hannah gets an agent, then a publishing deal, then a movie deal. Author's Anonymous is the story of what happens to a critique group when one of the writers "makes it."

The movie is so funny and sweet. The characters are hilarious--John K. Butzin (Dennis Farina), the war vet who self-publishes his book Roaring Lion with a disreputable company and ends up with a roaring dog instead of a lion on the front cover and the back cover copy written in Japanese. The leader of the group is the "idea man" who carries around a voice recorder into which he continually spouts his ideas for bestsellers like "Frovers" about a a couple who can't decide if they are friends or lovers. But my absolute favorite was Colette--with her over-the-top writing that she thinks is so deep and her certainty that she is the one who should be published. Teri Polo played that character so perfectly!

I watched it once with my teen daughters and again with a member of my old writers group and we all loved it! If you are a writer and especially if you have ever been in a writers critique group, you have to see this movie.

If you are a writer or a wannabe author, you will very much enjoy this sendup about writers, agents, publishers, success, and rejections. The part about the self published author continuously checking his rankings on Amazon is hilarious.
Been there, done that.
Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this film so much, that I watched it (the first film I've EVER done this with!) *two days in a row* - the first time alone, and the second time, with a friend!!

'Authors Anonymous' is a funny, poignant and brutally honest look at life within a writers' group in California.

The dialogue is hilarious and there are several memorable performances, especially from Teri Polo, Dennis Farina, and, above all, Dylan Walsh, whose deadpan delivery stole the show.

The film is beautifully-written, wryly-observed and cleverly-directed (documentary-style) - kudos to the writer, David Congalton, and director, Ellie Kanner.

Loved it!
