Editorial Reviews

Review

As a mother of an autistic boy I wanted to learn more about what's in store for me as my son grows up. I was glad to find a lot of information on the effects autism can have on a person during his or her lifetime. Besides this information there's a lot of information on the symptoms of autism, probable causes and the best interventions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Overview, January 29, 2012
This review is from: Autism & Asperger's Syndrome in Layman's Terms (Kindle Edition)
This ASD book is an excellent overview of the disease and the most up-to-date and complete listing of current treatment options. I have a son with a diagnosis of ASD and over the course of the last ten years, I have read many books. I feel quite knowledgeable about Autism but I still found this book helpful. I have read good overview books but they suffer because they become dated as new treatments become available. This book looks ahead at the research that is coming and provides a very complete and up to date description of all the current treatments including the alternative and the emerging treatments and research. I recommend this book to anyone starting to learn about Autism but also I found this to be an excellent reference book. I feel that it is, with its incredibly complete index, a great resource for veterans of the disease as well.
I really like the manner in which this book is written. Mr. Le Blanc clearly has a lot to get across and he has an easy to understand, engaging and straightforward writing style. After reading many medical books on the subject I found this book to be better especially if you are new to this diagnosis. It really explains everything in lay person terms. I found a wealth of information in this book and I especially found the chapters on vitamins, supplements and diet to be very thorough as were all the chapters on the various treatments that are available. I had heard the term "leaky gut" quite a bit and finally understand what this means. The chapters on school and home recommendations is very thorough and I appreciated the part of the book at the end where the author discusses the progression of Autism Spectrum Disorder from toddlerhood to adulthood as it gave me a perspective of the future that I had not found anywhere else. Five Stars! Recommended.
