In Autism~Heartfelt Thoughts from Mothers, nearly 100 mothers from all over the United States and moms from Finland, Australia, Belgium, Canada and The Netherlands, share their honest, most heartfelt thoughts regarding what it is really like to raise a child with autism. If you are a parent of a child with autism, you will undoubtedly identify with the challenges these mothers face everyday and you will find comfort in knowing that you are not alone. You will also share with them the ways in which they feel blessed. The words of wisdom that they offer will provide you strength and encouragement in facing your own daily challenges. If you have a friend or family member who is a mother of a child with autism, this book will bring you into 'their world'. The typical comment from readers like you, with new found compassion in their voice, is, "I never knew it was like that." To those who choose to read because you know someone with autism, or are one of the wonderful professionals who provide care to those with autism and their families, this book will touch you in ways you can't begin to imagine. These mothers face innumerable challenges every day. Not only in raising their child, but in advocating for their child at school, in educating themselves so that they can educate others, in dealing with difficult social situations, in feeling like others do not understand, in feeling alienated and isolated, in trying their best to solve the puzzle that is autism, and in finding the strength and energy to keep going day after day. Yet through it all, each and every one of them feels that their child is a true blessing in their lives. And their words of wisdom to other mothers shout, "You can do it! Don't give up! Fight for your child!" After reading this book you will see the mother and the child with autism through new eyes and you will gain an appreciation of the world of "Autism".

Wow! This book will not only have you reaching for the tissues, but it opens up the world of Autism like never before. Each mother's story is different, but strangely similar. The reader is let into the personal world of Autism as these mother's share their struggles, joys, challenges, etc. Anyone wanting to dig deeper than the scientific definition of Autism should purchase this book! This book touched my heart, made me cry, relate and feel a closeness to the moms and their amazing children!

This review is from: Autism Heartfelt Thoughts from Mothers (Paperback)
This is a must read for All parents, family members, professionals and anyone wanting a realistic view of what it is really like to raise a child with autism!

One mom, the author, has brought together moms from all across the US and from several other countries to tell their story. They have expressed their Greatest Blessings, Biggest Challenges and Words of Wisdom. Their stories truely come from the heart! Be prepared ~ the tears will flow!! Even if you think you have read it all, this one will definately teach you more. After reading and re-reading, I still come away with a greater appreciation and understanding of what raising a child with autism is really like!!

I highly recommend this book for everyone, but especially to the moms of children with autism. One of the most common feelings expressed as I read, was the feeling of isolation in having a child with autism, in this book, you can share and find comfort in knowing that you are not alone.

God Bless to all who live in the world of autism.
Dee

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt and Thought Provoking, April 25, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Autism Heartfelt Thoughts from Mothers (Paperback)
Autism: Heartfelt Thoughts from Mothers is a beautiful compilation of personal stories from mothers of children with autism. The stories contain words of wisdom, details of challenges that each mother has faced, ways they feel that they have been blessed, and resources that they found useful during their journey. Readers will gain insight into the world of Autism, as experienced first-hand by moms from around the world. There are stories in this book that will make you laugh and cry...there is something for everyone. The raw human emotion is a refreshing alternative to the drab textbook versions of what parents might expect during their child's lifespan. Individuality, uniqueness and compassion prevail in this book that proves that one size does NOT fit all. As I neared the end of the book, I arrived at a page dedicated to Ryan Long, who unexpectedly passed away. I was overcome with emotion while reading the words penned by his mother on the first anniversary of his passing. As the parent of a child with autism, it is a life changing moment when you realize that you're not alone, and that there are others out there who dream, laugh, grieve, and cry...just like you do.
