1.0 out of 5 stars Disgusting.
It's God's plan for a child to be autistic? God twisted together the DNA and chose your child to be saddled with this? I'm already sick at the message of this drivel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Resources of faith for autism!, April 5, 2009
This review is from: Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children & Their Families (Paperback)
"Autism's Hidden Blessings" is an inspirational story of one mother's journey, woven together with scripture and prayer, to help parents of faith (or those looking for faith) draw on God's strengh in raising children with autism. Kelly Langston candidly shares the dark side of this journey, acknowledging her own bewilderment, frustration, and feelings of inadequacy and even depression--as she struggles to understand and help her son. But when she turns this struggle over to God--not just once but in her daily faith journey--she sees the blessings that God gives to her son, her family, her community--and herself, not just as a mother, but as an advocate for autism awareness. There are many books about the medical, scientific, psychological, and social aspects of autism--this book provides a much-needed Bible-based spiritual resource for parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope, March 31, 2009
This review is from: Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children & Their Families (Paperback)
This book is an excellent resource of information for those parents seeking spiritual direction in their journeys with Autism. It offers scriptural reference to so many questions we may have in times of feeling hopeless or lost. I am not the parent of a special needs child, but I still found this book to be helpful and beautifully written with a wonderful message of hope in every page. Kelly Langston has a wonderful way of painting color in every word she writes, so you not only feel the words, but see the beautiful message being conveyed. An absolute must read for any parent who needs a helpful hand and avenue of help you may not have known you even had available to you!

What a book! I could not put it down! It had laughter, tears, joy, wisdom and knowledge all wrapped up together in a great read. Kelly tells her story with open honesty and clarity. She does not hide the bad and does not take credit for the good but gives it to God where it should be. Her book is a story, not only of two parents facing a tremendous trial in their lives, but how God lead them to even greater heights in their knowledge of his ways and how he is ALWAYS working in our lives. Your life will be blessed by the truth and hope this book gives to all, not just to parents of autistic children.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Godsend!, April 17, 2009
This review is from: Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children & Their Families (Paperback)
This book is truly a Godsend. Readers, on and off the spectrum alike will take comfort in this spiritual look at life with a child who has autism.

I like the way Scripture is included in the book; readers will gain a better appreciation of Scripture and no doubt many will apply the Scriptural passages in their own lives. This book not only helps readers appreciate and recognize the spiritual components of their lives by discussing same, it also enriches readers' lives by the compassionate tone in which it is written.

George Harrison's "Be Here Now" and "It's What You Value" could easily be the soundtrack of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME BOOK!, December 27, 2010

I can't begin to say enough good things about this book. It is by far one of my favorite books that deals with a family that is dealing with autism. I laughed and I cried and I could identify with the parents. I love the Biblical promises and reminders that God is always there for us when we are feeling overwhelmed while dealing with our children that have been affected by autism. I recommend this book to anyone that has a child or that knows a child that has autism.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope and Inspiration, April 18, 2009
This review is from: Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children & Their Families (Paperback)
As a parent and aunt to children on the spectrum, I must say that Kelly hits home with many of the feelings we have pondering about our children and offers hope and inspiration to everyone involved with autism. As President of the Autism Project of Southern Ohio, on behalf of all our parents, I wish to thank God for empowering Kelly to write her book and teach us about acceptance, hope, and promise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful encouragement and hope, August 19, 2009

This review is from: Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children & Their Families (Paperback)
I ordered this book when I learned that my 2 year old nephew was diagnosed with autism. I finished the book in two days. What a wonderful encouragement to parents and others who love someone with autism. As early as our family is in this process, I was more scared than anything. This book touched my heart and showed me ways that God has worked in the lives of others that I never would have imagined. I planned to give this book to my brother when I finished, but I will be purchasing copies for several of our family members now, instead of giving mine up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book of hope...., June 8, 2009

M. Ann Brasher "Ann a gram" (Crystal Springs, MS United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children & Their Families (Paperback)

I was set to hate this book because of the title. I was wrong. It is definitely Christian based perspective, but inclusive of bio-med and recovery. It's written by Kelly Langston and she opens all the raw wounds and exposes her feelings but gives hope through Bible scripture and example. She gave many good scriptures to hold on to and used some of the many Bible figures who had a disability that God used. EX: Moses shuddered but lead a nation, David was not even suggested by his father because "he was just a young Sheppard boy" and became a beloved and wise King, etc.
I think it's an excellent book for those seeking their faith after "the big wound" and those who are trying to hang on to the Promises of God's teachings that they have always believed until the A word entered their life.
She touches on (by example of her own experiences) marriage, meltdowns, the stares, the "Mad at God", the what now, how do I go on, what hope is there for me to cling to, etc.

So thankful to have bought this book. Very encouraging to someone affected by autism. My son was tested, but is not on the spectrum. However, we still deal w/his behavior problems on a daily basis. I'm keeping this book, as I'll be using the Scriptures constantly on those rough days.
