Saved me from being ripped off,
By
This review is from: Auto Repair for Dummies. (Plastic Comb)
Being a young woman with a car that needed frequent repairs when this book first came out, I was at the mercy of every greedy mechanic out there. At the time, I could barely afford to put gas in my car. I knew nothing about cars and wasn't at all mechanically inclined. This book saved me hundreds of dollars in maintenance and minor repairs. Good descriptions and lots of pictures. Now I'm looking for a copy for a teen with his first old car.

As an amateur driver I found this book to be really helpful in understanding the components and pieces of a car. Not only that but the book is great to take with you on trips in case of emergency. This book should definately be part of your home library.

This book was recommended to me by an auto mechanic in the early 90s. Bought it right away. Found it clear, easy to understand, concise and practical. So far, I've changed my own starter and alternator belt, checked the distributor, changed spark plug wires, among numerous other fixes. Get it if you can.

The original dummies book on car repair,

Long before the colour of yellow became synomynous with dummies was an amazing book on the maintenance of cars by Deanna Sclar. The book is about to be reissued but this classic covers everything from your first oil change, shopping for a good used car, getting a good deal on a new car with a bit of ZEN thrown in.

I read the first edition years ago, and whenever I work on my car I wish I still had my old copy to help explain some of the jargon found in other books. Please note, do not lend this book to anyone, its that good! Now I don't really need it because I have so many other books to help me with car repairs, but it was this book which got me started. To be honest, I think this book started the "dummy series". When I saw the title of the book I thought, now this is the book for me, 'cause I don't know anything. Anyway, please don't buy other repair books first, I did and I had to buy this one before I understood anything. This book can save you money and open up a new hobby for you. Call me crazy, but I like it :o).

I bought the first edition of this book in the early 80s and loved it! Gave away a number of copies as presents. I also bought this edition. Deanna Sclar presents auto repair simply enough for the complete klutz (me) to understand it. Shame she hasn't published a new version since 1989

The Best Auto Repair Book Around,
By Brock Williams (Anaheim,CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Auto Repair for Dummies (Hardcover)
As a new driver this book has helped me alot in buying a new car and it has also helped me in working on and maintaaining the car that I already have. I feel that this has helped me in many ways and I think that alot of people should read this book if they are interested in vehicles. It was also very interesting to find out things that I did not know about before I read this book. This is a better book on cars then any other car magazines and any other car books that I have read before becaused it describes in detail what you need to do or what you should do. This is also a good book because all of the other car books that I have read you have to know what kind of car you want to learn about or work on. That is why I like this book because it tells you about all kind of cars it does not just focus on one of them. So if you like learning about cars and you also want to learn about how to maintain your car I feel that you should read this book it is very educational.
