Nathan Lopez works as an intern at Mossy Toyota while he completes a two-year associate degree in automotive technology at Miramar College. He says his career choice is based on three factors: the continuing need for people with his training, the salary potential and the opportunities for advancement.
Lopez, 27, had some prior experience in the field after taking a one-year automotive course at a private technical college and landing a job in the repair division of a local Ford dealership. But Lopez said he felt "pigeonholed" doing the same type of repair work over and over again.
