5.0 out of 5 stars No Experience Required - REALLY!
AutoCAD is a huge, complex program that does more things than you can imagine. No one person would ever use all of it. Cad has a very steep learning curve. But this book simplifles it very well. It takes everything step by step. I have used two other Cad programs and was able to skip the very basics and go to the nuts and bolts. But if you have nothing more than a desire...

3.0 out of 5 stars AUTOCAD 2004 AND AUTOCAD LT 2004
Excellent book: clear, succint and detailed in explanations of AutoCAD design. I tried other books before, but this one really motivates you to keep going and review all the tricky parts of this program.
The following is not a critique of the book but rather my wishes on my engineering field: I would have liked to have several examples of electrical design...

Having had no experience with CAD, I was looking for a book that would begin at the beginning. This book is it. You'll start by drawing 4 straight lines that will become the outside walls of a small cabin. Then in each chapter, you will slowly add interior walls, doors, cabinets, etc... You'll learn the CAD commands one at a time as you complete the cabin plans. Well written and easily understood, this book is just what I was looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Book For Beginners, October 16, 2005

As the title says, No Experience Required. I tried several AutoCAD books including the"Dummies" series and it seems they all assume that the reader has some basic knowledge of AutoCAD. Frey assumes nothing and teaches by example, which to me is the best way to learn. Start with this book, learn a chapter a day, and in a couple of weeks you'll have a good working knowledge of AutoCAD. Then you can pick up some of the other books and go from there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best for beginner, April 8, 2005
This review is from: AutoCAD 2004 and AutoCAD LT 2004: No Experience Required (Paperback)
Bought 2 other books to ready my self-teaching. I purchased this as a 3rd book, should have looked at ratings of 2 other customers above 1st before buying any book, this is the only book I or anyone else beginning need. Explains and gives illustrations, same one you see in the computer, not like the other 2 books had to struggle to see what author meant.
I don't have much patience in going into details of a new program, want to just breeze through. This book allows you to do that, can easily bypass instruction you that is obvious.

I was a beginner in CAD and want to find a good book to study CAD rechnique. After I buying a book using a discount from coupons-center.com and read this book for two weeks, I found this book is helpful to beginners. It teaches all basic knowledge for CAD and it is easily understood by beginners. I followed the book's instructions and tried every feature of CAD, I learned a lot from this book only after reading this book for two weeks.

This book fulfilled all my needs as an older architect returning to the profession and needing to learn AutoCAD. If you're thinking of learning, you should set aside at least 4 weeks to absorb all the information in this book, but it will be well worth your while. The message is clear and succinct and is put together so that your knowledge evolves. The only criticism (yet to be fully proven) is that there are no shortcuts, it seems that you have to read every word on every line in every chapter. It is not AutoCAD for dummies. It would be nice if there were some shortcuts through the book but maybe that's just me. Otherwise it's fantastic. I've now got a working knowledge of AutoCAD via this book.
