This review is from: AutoCAD 2008 Tutor for Engineering Graphics (Paperback)
This book was the main textbook for two of the drafting classes I took at a local technical college. I learned a lot from this book and found it to be well-written, informative & highly readable. The latter was especially nice since too many technical books are written at a level that presumes you already know the subject matter! While this book does presume some basic computer knowledge, it starts the AutoCAD novice out with the basics - basic drawing setup, basic program usage, and drawing lines, entering lengths, angles & coordinates, etc.

Like any technical book, this one has its share of typos, but they are at a minimum. And, the text is chock-full of helpful illustrations, little "Try It Now!" exercises interspersed throughout the text as new concepts are introduced (I found these especially helpful), and lots of exercises at the end of each chapter. All in all, a very well-researched and well-written tutorial for using AutoCAD 2008 to produce mechanical drawings.

If you are instead looking for a straight-forward command reference as opposed to a tutorial, I would recommend The Illustrated AutoCAD 2008 Quick Reference (Illustrated AutoCAD Quick Reference).

WAY too involved for a beginner. Not easy to read and not contiguous in information.
