About the Author

Alan Jefferis has been an instructor of drafting technology at Clackamas Community College an Authorized AutoCAD Training Center in Oregon City Oregon for over fifteen years. He has also taught for four years at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham Oregon. His professional experience includes eight years of drafting for structural engineers and sixteen years of residential designing. He is currently the owner of Residential Designs A.I.B.D.

This is the worst autoCAD book available.
I have been using autoCAD since Jan 1998, release 13, 14, 2000, 2002, including the building envelope details for a 21 storey high-rise.
The author assumes you know autoCAD(intermediate level ie. minimum two years experience) and teaches the material as if you are an architect with years of experience. The book is like an "old boys club book" meant to intimidate and keep the riftraft out.
It was the mandatory text for Architectural Engineering Technology. A waste of money and time.
If you want to learn autoCAD try Alan J Kalameja "The AutoCAD 2000 Tutor for Engineering Graphics" it will take you from novice to intermediate user, including 3D, with step by step instructions. This was the text required for Mechanical Engineering Technology. Worth every penny.
AutoCAD works for all professions, but you have to understand autoCAD before you can apply it to your profession. If you can draw a complex mechanical part you will have no problem drawing a house or building, and you will learn commands that will enhance your productivity in all professions.
Alan Jefferis book puts the cart before the horse, and the horse walked away.
