I am a professor for a community college using this book in our civil engineering class and our lab. This one text serves both classes as it has the whole curriculum for a civil engineering class. It starts with a Jumpstart in Chp. 2 and covers an entire project in one chapter. Then it goes into detail in the remaining chapters for geometry, surfaces, profiling, sections, earthworks, corridors, grading and hydraulics. The lab exercises are accurate and walk you through every aspect of design step by step. Nice work and kudos to adding Ms. Orem as a co-author. Her experience as a real life user helped improve the book to the very useful state it is now in. I am now ordering 80 more for the bookstore for the Spring semester.

G'day all - i am writing to inform you that i received this text 2 weeks ago and am now using Ciivl 3D for the first time. I have tried for 2 years to use this software and couldn't get past the Styles. i can prepare surfaces accurately, cut profiles and get my work out. Our firm isn't too big but we use Civil 3D on mining quantities, reserves anf haul roads. It did the job for us!

We have standarized on this textbook for our company of 240 people. Civil 3D was a difficult program for us to implement and this book helped us in more ways than originally thought. the two part chapter layout shows theories and formulas followed by the Civil 3D applications. Highly recommended! Sven...

One of the absolute worst textbooks in existence,

This book alleges to take you step-by-step to doing many things in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010. Astoundingly, it does not even do that.
Assuredly, there are step-by-step directions. However, time and again, steps are left out altogether regardless that they may be of equal significance to others. Other times, an introduction to a step is listed and numbered as if it itself were a step or instruction. Many times, you question whether the author was using the 2010 edition of Civil 3D that you are using because many things do not show up where you would expect them or not at all. There is never an explanation about anything as to what you are actually accomplishing. No basic definitions are ever given. For whom is this book written? Certainly not for someone who "only" already knows AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit Architecture and who has maintained a 3.90 GPA in a Computer Drafting & Design course of study. Perhaps it is for someone who has already used Civil 3D day-in and day-out for six months who already knows everything in the book. In other words, the book is useful to no one. Rest assured though, the author made a lot of money by selling this book to ITT Technical Institute for their CD310 Civil 3D class. And that is about it. Perhaps I am just some wet-behind-the-ears kid who can't tell the difference between bathroom tissue and a shower curtain... but no; that isn't the case. Over the past fifty years, I have read a small mountain of books. This abomination is good only for recycling its paper content. Don't believe me? Feel free to throw your money away. Myself, I am still looking for a proper instructional book on Civil 3D; this thing is not worth your second thought.

This is the worst text book I've ever purchased... maybe I don't understand what this book is supposed to be. It's not comprehensive AT ALL... very vague. It doesn't explain how to do anything just runs you through steps. I'm seriously wondering if I perhaps have purchased a workbook that goes along with a more comprehensive textbook. Definitely not worth the money.
