Needs alot of work,

This review is from: AutoCAD Visual Basics - VBA - A Guide for the Non-Programmer (Spiral-bound)
This book, though a valiant effort, is not what a potential AutoCAD VBA programmer needs. Jerry uses non-standard coding styles and most of the examples in the book do not work. It's simpilitic coverage is not what a newcomer to VBA programming needs, but rather real short examples of code that works. A potential buyer of this book would be well advised to look instead at "AutoCAD 2000 VBA Programmers Reference" from Wrox Press, Ltd.

Only skilled programmers need to apply,

This book was not intended for the average cad user in my opinion. It seem like it was design to help the experience AutoCAD users who has had some hours in either Lisp and/or any other programming language. It helped me get started on the basic things like creating entities and modifying them. You will NOT learn VBA for AutoCAD in a book that's under 200 pages long, but this one will sure get you started in the right direction. Thanks Jerry.

This is the language you want and this is the perfect book,

As a long time AutoCAD user and programmer I appreciated this well-written introduction to the newest programming language in AutoCAD: Visual Basic for Applications. I had been trying to justify refining my DCL skills when this came along. It's great! You write the dialog interface along with the code that makes it work. I had been searching for a book on this specific subject since the release of R14. The technology is so new that few if any could be found. This one is ideal. If you are new to programming AutoCAD stop thinking about LISP and DCL and DIESEL and SCRIPT and blah blah blah. This is the language you want and this is the perfect book to get started with. Not too vague and not too detailed, it will help you to be productive in a very short time. Jerry did an excellent job of making the book easy to understand and fun to read. (As fun as a programming book gets anyway) I hope he puts out a more advanced book on the subject. I'd definitly buy it. Mark Johnston CAD Manager Westmark Products, Inc.

I've spent over $200 in VB books which didn't come close to what your book did for me.

Perfect book for an Autolisp programmer,

This review is from: AutoCAD Visual Basics - VBA - A Guide for the Non-Programmer (Spiral-bound)
As a person that has programmed in Autolisp and ADS, this is a perfect book to become exposed to VBA. With 5 years of programming Autocad, I was looking forward to R14 and VBA, but not looking forward to learning a new language. Jerry Winters has broken this language down in this book to just what the tiltle says, "A GUIDE FOR THE NON-PROGRAMMER". He explains the steps to get started, defines the different parts of the program, and has examples to get us started. I would recommend this book to others.

Best Book on VBA in AutoCAD?,
By A Customer
This review is from: AutoCAD Visual Basics - VBA - A Guide for the Non-Programmer (Spiral-bound)
The rating of "Best Book on VBA in AutoCAD" is defaulted to this book because it is the only on on VBA with AutoCAD. I can't say I didn't learn anything with this book. But, I can say that I didn't learn very much. If you don't know anything about using VBA at all don't expect to learn it from this book. One positive thing is that Jerry Winters give a few examples of using VBA with AutoCAD. However, it looks like he wrote the book while learning to use VBA with AutoCAD. It is a step above what you get from Autodesk.

I have reviewed this book in its entirety. I found it to be pretty simplistic, and i would not consider it a book from which to learn much about programming in VBA. I found about a dozen errors in this book which i contacted the author about in emails, with no response. Having used autocad for 16 years, I would like to see more in depth coverage. overall, i found the book average, with some sloppy mistakes
