Book Description

November 1997
Before Mel Gibson's 'The Passion' and before the revelations of the recent revelations of the 'Judas Gospel', there was "THE Autobiography - of Jesus of Nazareth and the Missing Years".

This novel is the past-life remembrance of one of history's most charismatic spiritual leaders. Written as a compelling story, it breathes life into the man we have only previously known through religious doctrine.

Richard G. Patton has succeeded in explaining the seeming contradictions of the New Testament in a contemporary and life-affirming way that few people have attempted, or even dared to do, before. For the first time we learn the truth of the 'lost Years' and where Jesus studied - before entering the political arena of first century Palestine. Jesus' profound but simple message that "everything can be known through the heart" has a resonance that bridges the antiquity of the Old Testament with the present day New Age Pundits. Patton takes us from the innocent days of Jesus racing sticks along the narrow stream in Nazareth, to the portent-laden days of the Crucifixion. Among his many travels, Jesus studies in India. Here he learns and masters the Vedic texts of the High-Caste Brahmins. He attends the most sacred of India's spiritual festivals, the Khumba Mehla. This festival occurs only once every twelve years, when the planets are in a specific alignment. This is the only time when the ascetics, that live solitary lives among the Himalayan Vastness, enter civilization. Even today, it remains India's most important spiritual festival and is attended by millions of devotees. It is at this sacred festival that the Masters enter into open spiritual debate. They are judged on the outcome and subsequently carry the appropriate titles for which they are then recognized throughout India. Because of the destruction of all but the strongest of reputations, Jesus believes he has no other choice but to speak out. It is in Benares that he starts teaching the 'Untouchable' Hari-Jans. Enraging the Brahmins, by sharing their most sacred teachings, he triggers off a fierce and bloody riot from which he barely manages to escape with his life. From this point on he becomes a hunted man and escapes to the snow-trapped Himalayas where he continues his studies under the watchful eyes of one of the 'Three Wise Men' that had attended his birth, almost twenty years earlier.

On returning to his homeland of Judea, Jesus is pressured by his Uncle, the Arimathean, to head a political group, intent on replacing the Temple rulers - and placing Jesus on the 'literal' throne of Judea. By right of bloodline, it was intended that Jesus become the King of the Jews.

The truth of history's greatest betrayal, by Judas Iscarriot, is shown in an entirely different light. The man who witnessed so many of the miracles is shown to be far more involved in Jesus' destiny than we have heretofore been lead to believe. Patton wrote this revelation 10 years before NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC recently verified the 'Judas Gospel' - confirming Patton's accuracy of depiction. In a contemporary style, Jesus' message of "as I do, you also can do" is shown to be literally true. This is a portrait of a very human man BEFORE he became the icon of Christianity.

From the Author

This novel is the cumulative work of almost twenty years. The material has been researched extensively, both through academic sources and in the countries of Israel, India and Egypt. The verification had been undertaken through direct memory of past lives, using Regression Therapy and Channeled sources. The purpose was not to demean established teachings, teachings that have almost two thousand years of tradition to back them up. I simply wanted to put forward what I personally believe to be true, with regard to the human being we all refer to as Jesus of Nazareth. Once there was an extraordinary man who walked this planet. He was the paradigm for all that Humankind can become. He spoke simply so that all could understand. His fundamental teaching was that everyone can come to God ONLY through the Heart Center. "As I do, you also can do" he said. His words were literal then, they have become lost in Institutionalized metaphysics. He did not arrive on the political stage of first century Judea without having first undergone extensive training and unimagined personal dangers. It is this training and the many inconsistencies of the New Testament that this novel addresses and explains. You cannot know the man - until you know his background. This background has been kept secret for two thousand years, for reasons that will become quickly evident.

From the Back Cover

....It was a time of celebration. Too much wine had been drunk, but we were happy. The time had come! Tomorrow we would each set out towards different points of the compass. I had wanted to return to India, but that fell to Thomas. "What do you want?" he asked. Those dark eyes looked accusingly back, but remained silent. "What do YOU want?" he again insisted. This time the question was more pointed. The pain showed in Judas' face - and the betrayal he felt, needed no further explanation. .* * * * * * * * * * * * Undergoing Regression Therapy, the Author found that not only had he known the man we have now come to know as Jesus, but that he had been present at the most infamous meal of all time. THIS IS NOT A WORK OF FICTION. ? This book will NOT make you taller, thinner, more attractive or even wiser! It will however make you question what has been passed down in history as immutable and true. What occurred almost two thousand years ago had relevance then. More importantly, it has relevance now! ? Did Paul, the greatest persecutor of Christians and founder of the 'Christian' Church, experience a sudden revelation on the road to Damascus - several years after the Crucifixion - or had he been a close associate of Jesus, prior to the Crucifixion? Where was Jesus from the time of his youth until the time he suddenly 'appeared' on the political scene of 1st century Palestine?

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping and contemporary LOVE story despite 2000 years !, January 8, 1998
This review is from: The Autobiography of Jesus of Nazareth and the Missing Years (Paperback)
It's not often that a book comes along and radically changes your outlook on life. "THE Autobiography" does just that. It is certainly not a religious text by any means. The word 'spiritual' is too often used, but in this novel we are challenged to view the world through the eyes of a great spiritual being that believes his life's mission has been a failure. Besides being one of the most riveting reads I have had in many years, it is probably the most challenging I have ever read. Here we don't see the historical Jesus we have all come to know and accept. Patton presents us with a comprehensive and contemporary figure that undergoes extensive and dangerous training - a training that would test even today's Indiana Jones. Rarely does an author succeed in bringing to life historical figures in a way that is convincing and relevant to today's readership. This novel succeeds on many levels. Firstly, it is intensely readable whatever your belief system; Secondly, it answers many of the questions that have been unanswered for almost two millennia. Thirdly, it calls into question our beliefs of everyday spirituality as opposed to Religious Doctrine. If, as Patton claims, this novel is true, then I think we will all be able to face the future will eager optimism. If only for that, I'd highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars I could not put this book down!, September 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Autobiography of Jesus of Nazareth and the Missing Years (Paperback)
This book gave a much more human view of the man Jesus of Nazareth. He became a real person with real trials that you can relate to. The Bible does not give a full picture of the story. The Bible goes from baby to 12 yr old boy to 30 yr old man. What happened in between? This book fills in some of the blanks. The true tale is in the journey not just the end result. We should not be offended by a different telling of the tale. Do not be shocked by my words. Be open to the possibilities the truths this book brings. This book is truly a revelation.
