Autocourse again produces a winner!,
By BTo2439518@AOL.com (Indianapolis Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Autocourse Official History: Cart: The First 20 Years, 1979-1998 (Hazleton History) (Hardcover)
For its entire history the CART series has been the primary focus of my keen interest in motorsports. With super-fast high-tech cars competing on a wide variety of oval tracks, road and street courses, this series has no equal. In true Autocourse style this book is an excellent way to either learn all about the formation and evolution of CART and/or bring back a lot of great racing memories. The text and photography are all superb!

Disappointing,

Compared to the typical Autocourse title, this is a disappointing book. Some excellent photos is the only highpoint.Based on previous Autocourse titles, I expected a chronological approach to the subject with detailed race by race statistics and some technical discussion. Instead, the book covers the history of CART themematically with the bare minimum of driver stats and superficial technology comment. This book could have been so much more; but instead, it is a trivial recount of CART's history. Very disappointing. Not in the same class as other Autocourse titles.

GOOD OVERALL PICTURE,
This review is from: Autocourse Official History: Cart: The First 20 Years, 1979-1998 (Hazleton History) (Hardcover)
THis book is often very superficial. It focus most in photos, but it reachs its goal, which is to give s a general picture for CART's first 20 years. It has the place-listings of every year from 1979 to 1998, but it has very few statistical data apart from that. I think it could have less photos and more data.

The Definitive Drive Down Memory Lane... in An Indy Car !,

For those outside the loop of racing, NASCAR garners a great deal of attention. Lost in all the attention paid to that series is a great style of racing collectively known as "open wheel" or "Champ Car." The CART / Indy Car series has evolved over the years but one thing has always remained. The races are fast, exciting and very competitive. How exciting? Put 800+ horsepower in a 1,600lb car that stands at knee level and enjoy the fun! If you are a fan - new or old - this series from Autocourse is a must-have. Specifically, this edition is a must-have at all costs.
Everything is covered: The formation of the organization into a great racing series. The major names and personalities of the sport. The technological advancements over the years. The champion drivers, cars and engines. There are timelines which give even greater historical perspective. There are complete results for all races and drivers for 20 years. The photography is fantastic and brings back a lot of memories for someone who's watched these races over the years. All the most memorable moments are covered in detail. |
