4.0 out of 5 stars Automated Graphics for A/E/C - Are we there yet?, December 27, 2004
This review is from: Autodesk Building Systems 2005 - complete package ( 23505-051452-9000 ) (CD-ROM)
The first REAL attempt by Autodesk combining all the primitive graphics offered in 3D Studio with simple automated lisp routines to create an integrated Design/Drafting TOOL priced too high. Our decision to finally purchase 2005 Building Systems in lieu of other software is compliance with IFC translators and the comfort level of existing personnel to crossover from ACAD 2000i. 2005 Building System makes it capable of sharing a graphical database consisting of parametric values associated to object properties and translate into other software packages for analysis.

The new version appears similar to the short lived 2004 that had to many integration problems. Training people familiar to ACAD2000i was an issue with other European packages many serious Architects are now utilizing. Menus in 2005 give the simplest users the ability to visualize "spatial issues" and ability to communicate design intent. Memory storage will be a premium along with your sanity when using a PDF package.

The downside is the overhead required to make it function as a tool and creates a liability of its own if the responsible person for the design is not involved. The fact remains; the software associates 2D ANSI symbols to view in a 3D modeled by the product manaufacturer complete with specifications and data sheets. I look forward to the coming years when all my tools are in one box!
