Product Description

Budding artists, casual doodlers, and seasoned sketchers alike will enjoy SketchBook Mobile for their Android device. SketchBook Mobile, from the makers of the popular SketchBook desktop software, provides a full-featured drawing application and image studio that lets you follow your artistic bliss wherever you go with your device.

SketchBook Mobile
Get your creative juices flowing
Versatile Tools

Your screen becomes your canvas, and SketchBook Mobile provides a surprisingly complete set of professional-grade sketching tools. You start by selecting from among 40+ included brushes, pencils, pens, and airbrushes, and an extensive variety of brush characteristics. Many brush settings are provided so you can easily adjust your brush's width to match your creative intent. You can also select the brush's opacity, and choose from a virtually unlimited number of colors, letting you find the right shade the moment you want it.

SketchBook Mobile
Create with endless tool options
Layers Upon Layers

Want to use a thick red brush on one section but a narrow green pen on another? By allowing you to include up to six layers for each image, SketchBook Mobile gives you tremendous control over your work. Each layer you add can be created and edited separately, and then you can combine them all into a single image. All layers can be scaled or rotated individually.

Import / Export

Photos from your phone or an SD card can easily be imported into the SketchBook Mobile app, which allows you to add drawings or your own unique touch to any photo or any image you'd like to import. For additional flexibility, any image you create can be saved to your phone's SD card or exported to another computer via e-mail. With the in-app emailing option, you can also easily share your creations with your audience. Importantly, images can be saved as JPEG, PNG, or layered PSD files, giving you the freedom to use SketchBook Mobile with other image creation software you might have on your laptop or PC.

Easy to Use

SketchBook Mobile is surprisingly easy to use for such an involved application. At launch, you're presented with a blank white canvas with a single circular icon at the bottom of your screen. Touching that circle brings up easy-to-use icons of brush sizes, effects, the color palette, and more. Use pinch-to-zoom controls to get in close for highly detailed creations. Even a novice will be creating artwork in minutes.

SketchBook Mobile's intuitive interface connects your creativity with your drawing quickly and easily. There's nothing stopping you from using your Android device as your canvas, anytime and anywhere inspiration strikes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best dollar ever for an artist March 29, 2011
By sraz
This app is actually quite amazing. Although you are certainly limited by screen space this is still the best dollar you can spend on.... a sketch book. Even though I am by no means an artist, I'll still find myself making colorful doodles and some business card ideas within this app. The interface is rather intuitive and quite productive once you get used to it.

Granted the average user could probably get by with the free version, I really feel the app was worth far more than 1 dollar. Some people might like some more flexibility; I'm just waiting to save for a tablet and stylus ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best dollar an artist could spend April 18, 2011

A nice little art program that I enjoy on my pc is now in the palm of my hand. This program makes almost no compromise in its design. Just a about every thing is here, even layers. best results with a stylus but you can do great stuff with your fingers too. There is currently nothing that comes close to this app in its capabilities on the market. I find it ideal in sketching ideas on the go. A practiced and steady hand is required. As a creative person this is one of my personal top ten apps for Android. I hope more apps like this come out in the future. Currently being used on a thunderbolt.

4.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this app but it feels complicated to the novice December 1, 2011

I LOVE this app, but I disagree with the product description that this would necessarily be the right choice for the 'casual doodler.' I love to draw (though I am not a trained artist) and have used a couple of drawing apps on the PC in the past, so I had some basis for understanding the various icons. But it still was a high learning curve for me to learn how to use this app.

I wish that it had a menu system across the top (a hidden one that pops up when you click the top of the screen) where you could pick colors and other basic commands instead of having to figure out which icon meant what and constantly going back and forth from between screens to change colors.

I saw something in the very basic "how to" that comes up when you first open the app about pressing in the middle of the circle where you pick your pen type, but I could never get that to work...I've only been using the app about a week but was a passengar on a car trip earlier this week and made a lot of use of the app then. With more use, I'm sure I'll discover new options.

For an artist, I can imagine that this would be like being a kid in a candy store. It is really a tremendous little package for a very tiny price. I just wish they'd made it a bit easier for the more novice among us to jump in with both feet.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is by far THE BEST drawing app out there March 21, 2013

*please see update added for FAOTD 10/25/13*quick FYI to start: there are some one star reviews about an update making this useless in the kindle fire but another update fixed that. WORKS JUST FINE ON THE KINDLE FIRE. no question this is my favorite drawing app I have. except for a volor book app for the kids all the rest are now sitting in the cloud. there are several choices not only for pen/pencil/brush types but also for sizes and textures. as far as color choices: endless. the way that the color customizing works there isn't a color you can't find. you can customize with red/yellow/blue scale and/or use the color wheel to find yhe exact shade you want. you van save any customized colors for easy access later on. without a doubt my favorite feature is the dual paper thing. imagine a drawing with a clear/see through paper on top. this enables me to take my drawing and, if I want to add something but am unsure as to the effect or whether I will like it or not, I can try it out first on that see through paper type option. if I like it then add it to the original an if not just delete it. LOVE IT!!!! there is an option for a mirror effect (whatever you draw on one half of the paper is automatically mirrored on the other half.

there was obviously a lot of thought and care for the app and the customer put into this sketchbook and for only $1.99 it's definitely a bargain.

UPDATE FOR FAOTD 10/25/13: there have been quite a few changes since I placed this review.

I've been seeing reviews that say that this app no longer works on Kindle Fire, and I am pleased to amend all these statements by saying that it does indeed work on the Kindle Fire...and it really is amazing.

3.0 out of 5 stars a bit frustrating, but still fun November 17, 2012
By Tara

Any artist that has used photoshop before knows about the "layer" system, and is a bit spoiled from using it... I know I am because this app's 6 layer maximum frustrates me to no end. I'm left saving my art and then compressing my layers as a makeshift fail safe. I realize there won't be the same layer customization system in a mobile app as a pc program... but it always leaves you wanting more. Also, this is an autodesk product and not an adobe one. If you've used an autodesk product like 3d max or mudbox, you know autodesk functions can be fairly elusive for a beginner, and with each update, more elusive for the expert. This layout reminds me of the zbrush program in that it even makes it hard for the user knowing where the "save" button is located PLUS there is no autosave feature. I had to do my first drawing over 3 times because I couldn't find the save, and looking through the help guide (in the middle of your project) resets the program. My advice to anyone who gets this app is to save often, and create multiple iterations of your file before you even think about collapsing layers!
