Very comprehensive overview of REVIT Architecture. Wish they had more detailed explanations on how to do commands, especially for a novice in this program. Seems like some intermediate steps were skipped, leaving one to try and guess a way to figure out a particular step in order to figure out how to finish the exercises. Great as a companion to structured instruction, would not recommend it if you are trying to learn the program by yourself.

Although 'Essentials' sounds like a good title for a book on Revit, it really depends on what your level is, and what you need to get done, whether or not this book lives up to it's title, or not, for you. I bought it as a reference book on my desk, while being tasked with production. I'm finding that when I hit a Revit 'wall' (pun intended), and want to look it up, I'm not always finding what I need to get on with it, defaulting to more effective Google searches that bring me to Revit forums, where a question and answer chain usually gives me a clue about the possible direction(s) of a solution to the question/problem at hand. Being of an intermediate level, I'm still amazed (to the point of unbelief) at the amount of 'workarounds' needed to accomplish a common production task, such as revisions to a project.

The content of the book is really pretty good, however it is pretty clear that the authors did not take the time to have someone run through the exercises in the book. There are a fair number of errors in the book such as references to incorrect figures and the downloadble exercise files have errors as well such as being incorrectly named. The publisher's website still does not have any errata posted, so you'll need to figure out the errors yourself.

Overall, not a bad introduction to Revit Architecture 2013 but be prepared for some frustrations when you come across the errors.

Not a very good read but is filled with helpful examples, along with full colour. Does tend to beat you to death with certain topics though.
