5.0 out of 5 stars Eclectic Enjoyment, March 29, 2001
By
ALA (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Automata (Audio CD)
Jai Agnish's music is wonderfully eclectic, mixing ruminating lyrics with playful drumbeats and sound samples. Songs like "Deaf Today" are on the melancholy side, but are balanced by songs like "Somerset Streets" that are lighter. His beats come mostly from drum machines, producing offbeat, fresh sounds that are quirky and fun; these are most prominent on "Finding Ways" and the instrumental "Green Series No. 1." I find myself going back to the album time after time without getting tired of it; there is just so much variety among the songs and so many new things to be discovered with each listening. If you're looking for a comparison, you might say Agnish is a kind of lo-fi Beck. I highly recommend this album for anyone looking for a new sound that's a blend of indie rock, folk, and electronica.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Review of Jai Agnish's Album, AUTOMATA, January 8, 2007
By
This review is from: Automata (Audio CD)
Where folk and electronic music meet Christian themes of faith and hope. Jai Agnish creates an attractive sound that appeals to the ears of listeners of many genres and styles. He is the creator of Flygirl, an acclaimed zine that mixes the same premises as his music. His 2000 debut, AUTOMATA, exemplifies what he enjoys in life--Christianity, peculiar toy-like sounds, and a snappy melody. The songs, whether vocal arrangements or instrumental pieces, are all good and have a certain brillaince about them. Recommended Songs: "How You Dream," "Deaf Today," and "Climb To Remind."
