The best general book about control engineering,
By
This review is from: Automatic Control Systems (Hardcover)
I had to use this book for my last semester in electrical engineering. It is really interesting, well explained and complete for a concise introduction about control engineering and design of controllers. All you need to follow the text are basic notions in engineer's mathematics (a bit of calculus and algebra). A few chapters offer reviews of important notions (transfert functions, state variable modeling, differential equations, ...) Then, you get to the essential, control theory. The book is well divided. First chapters cover mathematical notions you have to master in order to succeed in the next part (signal flow diagrams, block diagrams, a bit of mechanic). Then, a few chapters introduce control loops, poles and zeros interpretation (explained very well with a lot of graphs examples). A single chapter covers root loci drawing. Great explanations about controllers are complete and easy to understand. The last chapter is kept for design only with A LOT of examples for PID, phase-lag, filters, etc. Emphasis is made on computer design with examples all along the book. The CD included offers a few useful tools to use for design with Matlab. The author knows his subject more than anyone else. He has good experience in design and the text is well written. A must for anyone studying the subject.

Control Systems made understandable,
By Joe De Waele (Belgium) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Automatic Control, 7th Edition (Hardcover)
This book is definitely one of the best introductory texts on linear Control Systems. Every item is theorically well explained without loosing the practical aspect on each subject. Highly recommended for people who started to study linear Control Systems at an undergraduate level.

Nice book but...,

This review is from: Automatic Control Systems (Hardcover)
This is a good, pretty thorough text for control systems, but its difficult to find what you're looking for if you're just briefly glancing through the chapters. Sections are not clearly distinguishable - lacking bold or different color text. It could also use more clearly marked examples.

Great for beginners and experts alike,

This review is from: Automatic Control Systems (Textbook Binding)
Like all of Kuo's other books, this one is good reading. It covers all the important topics involved in Control system theory, time and frequency domain analysis and graph techniques, amongst other topics. Good question-and-answer section. Kuo has this style of writing where you feel he can read your mind and know what you are thinking as you read the book. It's a great book for beginners and experts alike. I think this is one of the best books on Control systems theory.

Course taught by the author,
This review is from: Automatic Control Systems (Hardcover)
I had the pleasure of taking Feedback Control Systems course with Dr. M. F. Golnaraghi (Author of this book). He is extremely knowledgeable and has a huge history and experience working with Control Systems. The book is well written and builds you up from the basics. Even if you have little technical background in control system theory, after studying this book you will feel very confident. It's very well laid out and easy to understand with lots of examples and practice. It is one of the best beginner to intermediate Control systems book out there. Highly recommended!

Good if you've already familiar with Control Systems. It skips some parts as detailing in Mathematical Foundation and goes straight to the subject that you want to know. Comes with a CD with a very handy Mathlab program to solve Transfer Functions, etc. However, you have to download the Appendixes from the internet, because contrary to what it says, there are no appendixes on the included CD, only the Mathlab program. But it is a good book for post-graduate students and engineers.

It would be nothing special to comment on new book, except remarkable price. Even though it is listed with regular price for over one hundred dollars, which is usual for new college curriculum books. But there is an option for New starting from $6 or so. It was suspicious ( not complete book? some weird edition may be?), but I bought it anyway for my daughter. She got it and use it for her classes. The same book, the same edition that their college store has for $130 or something.

From the ordering to the receiving of the product, overall I was pleased with the process. There was some mix up with the Post Office but that was in no way the fault of the supplier. Once I received the book I was extremely pleased with the quality of my product.
