Hi,
I beat up reviews of gravel vacs for almost a week. Look, this thing cost three times the normal 2 c-batt vacs. Just buy it. The thing is awesome. The upper area you see in grey-white is 6 inches of micro mesh plastic to fill up with garbage. You just press 2 buttons to detatch it and go rinse in out. The whole thing is submergable. Also the "On" button locks in. So you don't have to hold it. I didn't give it a 5 because I feel they could have added a cross under the impeller to not allow very small stones to get up in there. I had one lodge which made me have to disconnect the section and dump it out. No biggie. Just being picky since this is a review. Uses 4 AA included (Duracell) wow. Has great suction. I press the lower section all the way in the stone and it actually sucks down to the bottom of the tank. I would have rated this 4.8.

I have a 90 gallon tank and sometimes I don't want to perform a water change to get the bottom of the tank clean. I had the multi-vac previously. I have no issues with that except over time, the pieces won't stay together. I bought the sludge extractor (PETCO) and I love it. It reaches to the bottom of my tank and I didn't have to drain any water. The pressure on the vacuum was more than adequate. I was a bit relunctant on the proce, but I'm happy I did buy it and would recommend it to others. Just shop around for the lowest price.

This was the second vacuum I purchased and I hope that by reading my review you will make this your first. There aren't a million electronic vacuums on the market but almost all of them cost less than this one. That makes them VERY tempting. However, there are many things that make this worth the money:
- Plastic mesh filter: The cheaper ones exit into a cheap cloth bag that keeps coming loose.
- Suction: This thing has GREAT suction. You can see all of the debris getting pulled up.
- Easy to clean: Take off the filter and rinse it under the faucet.
- Quality: This FEELS solid. The other vacuums feel cheap like they will break at any moment.
- Works on larger tanks: It comes with an extension that you can use if you have a mid sized tank.

Just wanted to share a tip. It doesn't look like it, but you can remove the cap at the bottom of the mesh filter to make it easier to wash out all of the debris sucked up by the vacuum.

This is a great tool if you want to clean up a bit between water changes, or if you want to clean up during a water change but don't want to take out too much water. Highly recommend.

I have a 45 gal cube aquarium that I use this on twice a day. Before purchasing it, I had read numerous reviews about the smaller particles that escape the mesh basket. Well, I decided to try something. I bought some 50 micron filter padding and cut it to fit inside the mesh basket so none of the mesh is open. Once I got the correct size, I cut several at a time to have on hand. Anyways, I just put the micron pad inside the mesh basket and more junk is caught and less cloudy water!! I still get a little cloudiness, but not near as much as I did the first time I used it without the micron filter.

Once finished, I take the filter out of the mesh basket and rinse it well and shake it very well and let air dry.

Using the micron pad also gives me a chance to look closely at the poo and make sure I don't see any obvious parasites!!

I know this is an extra step but it's one that I don't mind at all since it really helped me with the cloudy water during use.

I want to begin by saying I cast no dispersions on those who have found the EHEIM Quick Vac Pro to be more than adequate. I am not in the business of casting judgment on anyone's experience with this product. My whole approach is to be truthful and accurate in my analysis. That being said, I have given the EHEIM Quick Vac Pro adequate testing and have determined that there are TWO major foibles. The provided video should help potential buyers know that this product IS NOT 100%, and validate some low ratings regarding this product.

NOTE that this analysis is no reflection on the vendor (My EHEIM Quick Vac Pro Amazon purchase was sold by Companion Caterers - Amazon featured seller is now ValuePetSupplies). These problems are the result of one or more EHEIM problems regarding poor quality control, poor design, or a rush to market.

I purchased this unit, on 7 March 2013, to aid me in the cleaning of my 40 gallon Uniquarium during recovery from hernia surgery. Anticipating a helpful tool, it did not take long to prove itself less than capable. There are two major foibles:

Foible ONE: Impeller Jamming
The tendency for the impeller to jam is fairly quick. The close clearance between the impeller and the siphon intake appears to be the issue. This is a major show-stopper for any aquarium cleaning aid (One wants an `aid' to do its job, not add to the cleaning task).

Foible TWO: Battery Compartment Seal
The is no matching interface lip between the o-ring and battery compartment. There is only one o-ring in an area which can (and will) be flexed by the user as they energize and deenergize the unit, and move the unit through the aquarium water and gravel. For a true water-tight seal, there should be more than one point securing the cap to the housing.
