This book is excellently written To be an invaluable to to anyone interested in rebuilding a General Motors automatic transmission. It gives a good theoretical base to start from, describes the needed tools, and give excellent step by step instructions.

The only negative thing that I can say about this manual is that it only covers four models. Covered are the TH 200-4R, TH 700-R4 TH 350,and the TH 400. Also, only the mechanical versions of the four speed transmissions are covered.

Since these are probably the most common models, these limitations don't really decrease the value of this book. Definatly a must have addition to any true Motor Head's book collection.

I have no experience with transmissions, But after reading this book I decided to give my Th400 an overhaul. The book explains the automatic transmission fundamentals, troubleshooting, transmission identification, tools required, and step by step instructions with photos. I highly recommend this book for all you DIY people.

This book is essential to someone who needs pictures (I do not). Should this be the case, and if you plan on rebuilding one of these transmissions, I strongly suggest you use this AND an ATSG manual....and you cannot go wrong. The ATSG manuals is the best, the ONLY, and it's the real bible....but there are no pictures. Once you've done one, you don't need pics, but if you do....the Haynes is the one to buy, and they are cheap! If you have both, you should be OK. I strongly recommend this manual for the price, it would be worth it for twice the money. I have no real use for it, but I wanted to see one for myself and I am quite impressed! If you are not a seasoned transmission guy, buy this, you won't regret it. I am not a fan of the Haynes manuals, but they did a nice job on this particular one and you certainly can't beat the price!

I am a GM technician, was looking for good info on some of the older model trannies. I was impressed with the books' real world approach to dealing with a complicated subject. Lists all the special "J-tools" the factory recommends but shows you the handful that you really need. Concise and clear, step by step, yet assumes you're not an idiot, this book will help you get it done right.

this book has all but the powerglide of being a restorer dream. easy to understand with only intermediate level understanding of mechanics. the saler sent a new book happy with the shipping and price.

This book only really covers tear down and build up, There is not a lot of inspection. I really don't see the point of rebuilding a transmission just to put bad parts back in. Not a lot of pictures on the build up side either. I think that I expected more because I have used ASTG transmission manuals before. I would save your money and buy an ASTG manual.

This book is a must have to tackle a transmission overhaul. Great pictures and easily understood write-up. Can't beat it for the price.

I have to say that I have an old Pontiac and the Haynes Books have taken me where I need to go to get the job done where I have taken my car to half a dozen places in my town with no help but more headaches, and spending too much money for Labor. Easy to read and understand. The illustrations take you right to the core of any repair, and it allows me to do better work than any mechanic. You got a fairly simple repair... Don't make the mistake that I did and get hit in the wallet for a bunch of Useless Labor costs... Get the Haynes book, invest in some good tools, and get it done right the first time around.

This gives enough infomation to allow the reader to know what special tools to buy or improvise, how to check parts during disassemble, what to do to repair and reassemble so that the end result is that the transmission works well. Detailed reassemble drawing showing each piece and where it goes.
Worth the money just to read and enjoy before tackling a messy problems transmission. The book seller delivered before I expected the book to be here and the book is in excellent condition.
I like that Amazon made finding this book so easy and quick too. Using Amazon saved me several days of sitting at the computer looking for the right book at the right price on other sites that are not user friendly. Amazon had what I needed, when I needed it and for a good price with quick delivery too. All the bells and whistles in one place, what a deal!

I got this book and many others from Haynes even earllier than I thought I would. What an ideal support for car repair. Thanks to amazon.com I could easily find it.
