5.0 out of 5 stars Ready-made hits May 21, 2013

Get this record. It's like a transplanted greatest hits record of some early 1970s band/singer, only with the lyrical savvy and self-revelation more typical of contemporary artists. Lovely vocals, interesting instrumentation, catchy tunes, and meaningful lyrics. This is hummable music with heart and wisdom. What more could you ask for?

2.0 out of 5 stars meh February 24, 2014

I saw this band highlighted on carson daily, but their CD sounds nothing like they sounded on his show. They sounded more like a garage band on the show, and the CD is a boring "cleaned up" version of the band. Should have kept that dirty, rock n roll sound, I liked it so much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars In full control of her talent February 10, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Songwriters as brilliant as Jenny O. are rare. But not *that* rare. What's truly rare about Automechanic is how solid it is. There's not a mediocre track on this album. A lot of young geniuses can't seem to tell their best work from their middling, but to make a record like this Jenny O. must be as good a self-critic as she is a songwriter. I suspect that's crucial for a lasting career. I expect to be looking forward to her latest album 40 years from now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Swagger & Vulnerability January 31, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
In a perfect world, Haim would be opening for this enchanting singer and songwriter. With the help of master-producer Jonathan Wilson, she has crafted a richly detailed set of songs, many with a touching vulnerability beneath their road-hardened swagger. More thoughts here: [...]
