Our 2 year old son loves his AUTOMOBLOX car!,
This review is from: Automoblox by Manhattan Toy C9 Red Sportscar (Toy)
Grandpa got this for our 2 yr old son for Christmas and he absolutely adores it. He is a car fanatic, and gets giddy at the sight of any vehicle! It must be in the genes! ;-)
The car is made up of 3 separate pieces that are easily taken apart and put back together and all 4 wheels/tires are removable as well, but he has not figured that out yet! When he drives the car around, my husband and I have noticed the occasional squeak, but that is from the plastic wheel rubbing against the wood. Our son doesn't mind it at all, though! I also feel I should mention that this car is rated for ages 3+, and I was very concerned about this being hazardous for his age (2). However, the only choking hazard are the 2 plastic people that fit inside of the car. So we just took them out and are saving them for when he is a bit older. The rest of the car is harmless and all of the pieces are too big to be a danger. We plan to get him another automoblox or 2, so he can switch the pieces around and build different cars!

Pure Joy for a Two Year Old Boy!,
By
This review is from: Automoblox by Manhattan Toy C9 Red Sportscar (Toy)
We gave this to our two year old son for Valentine's Day. He absolutely loves it! The size of the car is perfect for small hands and even thought it's recommended for 3 and up, he seems fine with it. It rolls nicely on hard surfaces and even on our longer carpet. This toy combines a puzzle concept with shape sorter with blocks. Our son enjoys taking things apart and putting them back together and this car allows him to do so. You can almost feel your child thinking and processing his/her options when putting the pieces back together. The car is of superior construction and seems extremely sturdy. We can't wait to purchase a second vehicle so that he can interchange the parts and construct new and interesting vehicles.

Too expensive, not versatile enough,

We bought two automoblox for our daughter, 5, the full sized blue sedan and green pickup truck.
We found them much less versatile than advertised -- with $65 worth of cars you can build one version of a stretch sedan. Not very interesting. Also they are much harder to "rebuild" than it appears -- a circle/square/star/triangle locking system means that a) you can't reverse the pieces, and b) you have to remove the connector from one, maybe two ends, before you can connect them. You can put the pieces together upside down -- but then the car doesn't roll (wouldn't it be cool if you could convert them from "high riders" to "low riders"?). The connectors have a squeeze piece that 5 year old hands can't manipulate so she can't do it herself. We didn't find that this provided (as the instructions said) "a welcome level of complexity". Also the people in the car each fit into exactly one location -- their bottoms are round/square/star/triangle. I'm afraid this is one of those toys that appeals to adults but doesn't work out for kids. We've gotten a lot more use out of two 1:18 scale love bug cars that were about $10. -- Kristy
