Chilton manuals assume that you already know enough to fully understand and fix the problem you are having. Automotive Electrical Systems fills that knowledge and experience gap, allowing you to better understand your car's electrical systems and computers well enough to buy appropriate replacement parts and then use the Chilton manual to aid in the installation.
Automotive Electrical Systems walks you through the reading of repair schematics, which are vastly different on automobiles than on traditional consumer electronics devices. It also helps give you the confidence to buy and change out your car's components. This book stresses electronic test instruments over the more traditional approach to automotive systems, focusing on troubleshooting and repair techniques along with how to interpret your test instrument's results.
Designed for the beginner, but also a handy guide for the experienced technician, Automotive Electrical Systems includes sections on:
Basic Electricity, Cooling System, Digital Multimeter Use, Sensors Digital Storage Oscilloscope, Electrical System Charging System, Ignition System Lighting & Accessories Systems, And much more!
Automotive Electrical Systems Troubleshooting & Repair Basics includes information on Ford, GM and Chrysler products, and includes a section on the different types and brands of test equipment. This is a book that every automotive buff should have in his or her garage!
Vaughn Martin is a senior electrical engineer with the Department of the Air Force and has worked at Magnavox and ITT Aerospace/Optic. He has published numerous articles in trade, amateur radio, electronics hobbyist, troubleshooting and repair, and other magazines.

If you want to learn more about how to trouble shoot automotive electronics, this is the book for you. Although I'm an electrical engineer, this book is just a laugh away, for a basic consumer, this book could prove valuable! From the basics of how to use the Digital Multimeter, to using an oscilloscope, you can't go wrong with this book! This book is geared to the un-experienced user.

Inaccurate & Unorganized,
By A Customer
This review is from: Automotive Electrical Systems (Paperback)
On page 10, a fundamental formula is incorrect.(60 + 60) / (60 * 60) does not equal 30. Why does and electrical book have a chapter on Coolant systems discussing pressure released radiator caps? The end of coolant chapter introduces you to electrical testing tools. The author claims this organization was "by design" -- quite a poor design. This book has more problems than a calculus book.

Automotive Electrical Systems Troubleshooting and repair basics,

Consider the book to be very confusing, as within the first ten pages found three significant mistakes. Only glanced throught the remaining sections because didn't want to get more confused or misled. Appears to be very poorly edited or proof read. Would not recommend it for a serious information source, unless you are already knowledgeable.
